  1. I was just wondering how everyone here came up with thier login name for this forum.

    i'll start:

i'm Scott. my wife is Shelly. We started dating when i was a freshman and she was a junior. All through school we were 'Scott and Shelly'. Everyone talked about 'Scott and Shelly'. We were always together, no one knew just one of us. Still to this day, our house is Scott and Shelly's house. Most people run them together to sound more like Scott'n'Shelly.

It stuck, so that's what our first e-mail address was 'scottnshelly@'. That's what my username has been ever since.

not that interesting, i know, but i'm sure some of you have an interesting story behind your username.

welll firstly i put my nickname down then a space. then i put karate because its a karate website so it ended up al karate :karate:
  2. does anyone have good strategies against larger, taller opponents in sparring/actual combat? i'm fast, but i have trouble breaking through their long reach.
hit them low because there arms are higher up so it will be harder to block for them 8)
  3. Just wondering if it's normal for the women to spar with men, I've only been in karate for a few months, and the only other woman in the dojo is my sil. We were practicing last week and I ended up going against a male black belt and a male green belt and being injured in the process. I just wanted to know if it's an accepted thing for women to spar with men in most clubs.
men do spar with women because some women can be good so really its fair :karate: 8)
  4. Everyone in the dojo! I have such trouble with being nervous when our sensei asks everyone to line up against the wall and then one by one we have to get up in front of everyone and do our kata...Just last week we learned Matsamura Rohai, (I haven't tested for my first belt yet) I'm pretty proud of myself that I can even remember all the moves, let alone do them in front of everyone else all by myself...anyways, I get so nervous when we have to do this, how can I control my nervousness? It affects the way I perform. It sounds really dumb, but we always practice facing one wall in the dojo, and tonight when we had to do this we had to turn around and face the opposite wall, which totally screwed me up. Anyways, I'm rambling, I know, but any tips on conquering your nerves when performing in front of other people? I hate it that I get so physched out by this, I want to conquer my fears. I am not a person who likes to be the center of attention like that. Can anyone give me any tips?
i think you should look at the people around you and think they must be nervous but they did fine so i will
  5. Hey guys, my mate emailed me the details to a tensho seminar in the UK. I'm gunna go along should be great! I've trained with both the instructors and in all honesty I think that I can confidently say that they are the best I've had the pleasure of learning from. A very good partnering indeed.

I do Goju but kata tensho is easy to leran and the principles transcend style. Is any one else going?

Here is a link to the site: https://www.freewebs.com/tensho

i dont know why you put that because i dont kknow what to say. i think you will probobaly do good so good luck :karate:
  6. I can tie it fine, it's just somehow my Gi always flies open! Geez, maybe I just have to get the feel for it. Hopefully :\

I sometimes find myself constantly straightning it out.

you are probobaly tieing your belt to low so try tieing it higher. :P :P :P :P :P
  7. What training/protective equipment do you own?

    I have:

    -heavy bag

    -home made wooden dummy

-tennis ball attached to elastic and a headband(home made)

    -home made grappling dummy

    -bag gloves

    -sparring mitts

As you can see i make most of my equipment so i can get it just right and i just enjoy creating it.

i own a punchbag that i use to make my punches stronger. :karate:
  8. what are good ways to not blink when someone will hit you. like when i play capoiera, and a kick is coming at me, i just block or sciva and blink. its not really becasue im scared, i just cant help it. anyone know any good ways to practice not flinching or blinking so when i play capoiera or if God forbid someday i fight someone, i wont blink? maybe practing keeping my eyes open could help, because i blink a lot outside playing. anyways, thanks :weirdlook:
i have a good way, have a blinking contest with your friend and the first person to blink losses the game it will help you not blink.
  9. i was sparring with my friend and it felt like i was more confident fighting him why is that. :karate:[You were probobly more confidient because you knew your friend would never hurt you so you felt alright. Basicly you trusted your friend :)
  10. 1. who plans to see it. I 'm skipping school to be there lol. I meen whoelse thinks that star wars premier nights are like the coolest nights ever especially if you get the movie premier day pass that lets u stay there and whatch it all day for 1 price.

    2. If u could be on the side of the jedi or dark side which would it be.

    3. if you could pick what type of saber and color what would it be. like would get one saber, dual sabers ( twin sabers) or a saber spear like darth mall.

I would pick the side of the jedi night , a spear light saber because it resembles the bo staff so it would be easier for me to use pluss it can be a spear saber or activate one blade to make it a normal saber. and my color would be green the same color as yoda .

    4. who is your favorite Jedi, i like yoda because of his martial arts style light saber weilding style.

1 yesi went to see it on my friends birthday

2 i would be on the dark side because they are more powerful :

    3 blue saber

    4oby one

  11. Hey all,

This is some equipment that people struggle with. What type of mouthguard would you buy? Would you continue training or would you have a fear of your teeth getting knocked out or messed up somehow? Let me know your feedback. BTW, my braces are being removed in 3 weeks :)

    later

i think i would still would train with them in but i would not do any kumita :bawling: :bawling:
  12. I know that my MA school is mainly filled with people still in school, (including me), but I'm curious as to how many people like it so much to the point that they'd register to a forum based on it. As for me, I'm 15.

And sorry if this poll's been done before, but I didn't see anything on the main page, nor did I find anything in a search, so I figured what the heck... =]

i am 14 and looking back
  13. Totally stupid thread poached from 2+2 Forums, but funny none the less!

i would like to know what is funny because i dont get it???????????? :-?

How many 5 year olds could you take out?!

    The Rules:

    - You are in an enclosed area, roughly the size of a basketball court. There are no foreign objects.

    - You are not allowed to touch a wall.

    - When you are knocked unconscious, you lose. When they are all knocked unconscious, they lose. Once a kid is knocked unconscious, that kid is "out."

    - I (or someone else intent on seeing to it you fail) get to choose the kids from a pool that is twice the size of your magic number. The pool will be 50/50 in terms of gender and will have no discernable abnormalities in terms of demographics. They are all fit and healthy.

    - The kids receive one day of training from hand-to-hand combat experts who will train them specifically to team up to take down one adult. You will receive one hour of "counter-tactics" training.

    - There is no protective padding for any combatant other than the standard-issue cup.

    - The kids are motivated enough to not get scared, regardless of the bloodshed. Even the very last one will give it his/her best to take you down.

I reckon 50 maybe, if you could stay upright not break your hands and not become exhausted lol

Hope this doesn't cause offence, it's just for giggles :)
