Muay Thai...seems like it would be invented in Thailand but i have been reading alot about Cambodia and the khmer rouge and the Pol Pot regime...all that. I recently read about Khmer boxing...which is basically exactly like muay thai lol...anyway, many cambodians claim that khmer boxing was invented first and the thais stole it, naming it muay thai. They say the reason khmer boxing was never popularized was because of the the pol pot regime suppressing all martial arts in cambodia. I've read a few articles on it and i was just wondering if anyone else heard about this and if so had anymore info on it?

MMACHAMP replied to CreativeGuy's topic in Health and Fitness
I must say im always one to question the effeciveness of TMA's...which is probably wrong in alot of aspects. The MA's i do are very aggressive competitive none spiritual beat you up types...and sometimes i read about meditating and all that stuff and feel left out lol...i wish i could experience the spiritual side of martial arts but i think im just too caught up in my close mindedness to ever try them. -
Muay Thai
MMACHAMP replied to ShotokanKid's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
It some small illegal organizations in thailand...they make it KO only otherwise draw. But major sanctioned organizations use scoring on a 10 point must system. They look for jabs...effective defense...combinations and power punch and kick percentage. Same as boxing with kicks involved. -
Spear takedowns
MMACHAMP replied to man thing's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Uhm exactly what pockets says....just sprawl. In other words when he grabs for your legs wrap your arms around him from the back side and straighten your legs and weigh yourself down so he has noway of grabbing your legs and taking you down -
Im not sure about the kick boxing titles but im pretty knowledgable in boxing. Boxing has a quite a few organizations but the most popular are: WBC WBO WBA IBF IBO IBA And it is possible to have every belt at once...just look at Zab Judah...he has close to every belt if not every belt in his division. Hes still fighting on the undercards to non title fights too lol.

Mastering BJJ
MMACHAMP replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The reason why it takes so long to get a black belt in BJJ is because it takes really long to master BJJ. When you get your black belt it means you have mastered it...unlike other MA's where they just hand out black belts because you pay for lessons. It will teach alot of dedication...and hard work. -

MMACHAMP replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
that japanese guy called the gracie killer is my avatar...his name is Sakuraba. Sakuraba was the first fighter in MMA to cross train stand up fighting and ground fighting and he beat Royce Gracie...and many other Gracies that way...Hence the Gracie Hunter -
BJJ Belt System ?
MMACHAMP replied to TriStateTerror's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
In my opinion it shows that the art is genuine...and that you arent paying for your belts. I think it shows alot of disipline if you can train and dedicate yourself for many years so that you have earned your belt. -
Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?
MMACHAMP replied to The Fonz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would have to say out of my own opinion that cross training BJJ and Muay Thai and/or Boxing would work in a street fight. Since UFC is the closest thing to a one on one street fight....and Royce Gracie proved that BJJ was the superior fighting style...then take it for what its worth. -
New, and A question...
MMACHAMP replied to Ahazmaksya's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Uhm...all of you would like to say avoid the fight which i agree to some extent...but i dont think it helps Ahazmaksya...so if you ask i would have to say cross train between muay thai and BJJ and you will be able to beat someone standing and on the ground. -
The way i train for a fight is by...doing cardio everyday....and training BJJ and muay thai and boxing 6 times a week for 7-8 hours a day. I ussually split it up by days instead of hours. And i run an hour every day. My diet ussually consists of 60% protein 40% carbs, and i drink alot of whey protein. I also do some lifting so that i have better strength when it comes to wrestling. Before a fight i listen to music that pumps me up and i try to visualize the fight and think of all the positive outcomes that could happen...i like to see everything that could happen and come up with a strategy that i see working in my head.

I would have to say muay thai out of all of those because its more of a free form fighting style. Street fights are free form and anything goes so if you know how to throw a punch in that kind of a situation it...or a shin kick to the head for that matter it would help alot. But i would also say BJJ would be even better than muay thai for 1 on 1 fighting...because alot of fights end up being on the ground.

I think UFc did change the way people look at Kung Fu and other TMA styles. I think this is true because the original UFC was designed to bring together fighters from all different styles to compete in a no holds barred fight to see which style worked the best in a street fight situation. In the original UFC's Royce Gracie (represented brazilian jiu jitsu)won the first 4 tournaments. He beat every other style put in front of him...and after UFC became popular...people started to realize that alot of fights end up on the ground...and not alot of TMA styles teach you how to deal wit hthat type of situation. So yeah people started to doubt the practical uses of kung fu and other TMA's in street fight situations.

Maybe you guys havent studied up on Bruce Lee that much. To say what im about to say from my background should be proof enough. Yes im an MMAer and no i have never trained TMA....and i ussually am the one to say TMA isnt practical for a street fight. But Bruce Lee wasnt a TMAer...obv at one point he was..but he developed his own fighting style. Jeet Kune Do...many people dont realize how good of a fighter bruce lee was. Jeet Kune Do in itself is a mixed martial art...its a hybrid of everything. I fight MMA and i trai muay thai boxing and brazilian jiu jitsu...and i would say bruce lee in his weight class would do very well in the UFC or any other MMA organization. Yes, Bruce lee did know what to do on the ground. He happened to be an amazing grappler...which alot of people dont know.

i say take advantage of as much training time as you can handle....boxing is a sport of experience...alot of things you just learn as time goes by. Learn to throw a jab really well....thats what i recommend..learn to jab really really well...then learn how to follow that jab up. After sparring and training for a good amount of time you will just have muscle memory...and you will just know when someones trying to throw what kind of punch and automatically block and or block and counter. Just train hard and dedicate yourself

BJJ Belt System ?
MMACHAMP replied to TriStateTerror's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
bjj belt system goes white blue purple brown black. And it ussually takes long depending on your teacher...but it ussually takes quite some time to progress in belt color. It took me 3 years i think to get just to blue belt.
