Hey all, thanks for checking out my post. My question is about Judo. First let me explain my situation. I am currently a green belt in Shotokan Karate and have every intention to keep training in Karate. I am very interested in learning Judo. I plan (if I'm accepted) on attending my local Police Academy in January and was wondering if 4-5 months of Judo training would be beneficial before I go. If I was to start Judo it would be in mid-July just after I (hopefully) receive my purple belt in Karate. Just wondering what any of you Judo guys/gals think and anyone else who has an opinion. Thanks M

Hi there. Why don't you trying doing push-ups from a different approach, starting at the bottom of the motion - so to speak. Once you stabilize yourself at the "bottom" (chest as close to the floor without touching, arms bent) of the push-up...hold this position for as long as you can. Your arms will start to shake like crazy after only a few seconds (because your body is not used to holding this position) your abs may even start to feel the burn. But if you keep repeating this for maybe a few weeks you may strenghten your muscles enough to complete a full push-up(s) all the way up and down. Give it a try, it can't hurt.

What kind of Royce will we see?

Where did half of you learn how to spell? Atrocious spelling, guys. Oh, Hughes will win this fight. I don't think Gracie will be much of a challenge. -
People seem to have a lot of problems with power and the side thrust. I have by no means perfected the kick but something that a black belt in my class told me was that my hip was not "getting in" to the kick. She told me to kick while trying to point the toes down some(not all the way, that would be hard on the knee)...this automatically engages the hip power that you need for a strong side thrust. I found that this has helped me. Hopefully, it will help you too.

Hi there, my name is Matt and I'm a yellow belt in Shotokan karate. For a while now I've been interested in training in Judo along with my karate. I am a bit worried though, mainly because I believe it may be too early to take on another martial art. I am very devoted to my karate training. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions or has been in a similar situation about wanting to start a 2nd martial art, but not sure if it's the right time. Thanks for any replies.. M

Yes we do. As a matter of fact I was doing a self-defense knife attack scenario thing with a woman where we would each take turns attacking with a plastic knife, then defending.

do guys like chicks that a martial artists?
mlee replied to IAMA_chick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, my ex girlfriend did that Arnis de Mano???sp (filipino)style kickboxing. And my present girlfriend and future wife does Shotokan with me, we both joined at the same time so we could progress together. So yeah, I guess I do like girls that do Martial Arts. Like someone said in a previous post about girls that are athletic and give a damn about their body...it's hot. -
Are there different styles of Judo?
mlee replied to mlee's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
What sort of Judo do you take raven? I know there are some Rikidokan schools in Quebec...seems to be popular over the Maritimes as well. Side note: Just wanted to thank everyone who replied to my post. Matt -
Hey all I am a little over a month into starting Shotokan karate. I notice on these boards a lot of talk about Kyokushin karate. I was just wondering what some of the biggest differences between the two styles were. Any posts or links in reply to my question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt

Is this whole body weight squatting based on the Matt Furey Combat Conditioning principles? I do his combat conditioning workout...haven't made it up to 500 squats yet, only about 125 or so....it is hard. Not sure if its as effective as doing a weighted squat, but they do work your legs like crazy.
