Why do you HATE WHEN PEOPLE ASK THAT QUESTION? I don't understand why people think that is a dumb question. Honestly do you think it would be best to walk into a Muay Thai training center being 50lbs overweight and start conditioning then? Or start conditioning on your own and then when you do walk into the Muay Thai place at least you are somewhat conditioned? I'm not 50lbs overweight, not even close. But I'm sure there are some people who are and I'm sure the instructor, along with the rest of the class would appreciate if that person came in somewhat conditioned. Yea of course it is possible to walk into Muay Thai and start conditioning right then. But I think it is actually better to get into shape BEFORE you start training. So if anything the "what should I do to get in shape before training?" question is a GOOD one not a bad one.

No problem at all.

What doesn't sound healthy? Anyways, I talked to my friend and I decided I'm just going to bulk up a little right now and then once I've bulked up I will cut which means lose any excess body fat.
-
Okay well I finally just consulted with an old friend of mine who is REALLY into lifting. I mean this guy is HUGE. So I was talking to him and telling him that I want to bulk up. Now one thing I'm not sure about is...I'm 6 foot 1 inches tall and I weigh 200 lbs. He told me I should try and get 300 grams of protein everyday, which is understandable but he also said I should shoot for around 6,000 calories a day! Isn't that way too high? I was thinking it would be somewhere around like 3,500 - 4,000 calories.

Ugh I really hate this stuff. It confuses the hell out of me. I have been reading up for the past couple of hours on gaining muscle mass/losing body fat and I just have more questions than I did before. Now I know that I need to be consuming anywhere from 1 - 1.5 grams of protein for every pound I weigh. So I need to consume anywhere from 200-300 grams of protein a day. I need to eat 6 meals a day with lots of carbohydrates too...even though I thought carbs were the "bad guys." Drink lots of water. I don't know I'm still confused on what to eat at every meal. As far as what foods will give me the right amount of protein, carbs, fat, calories. There are all sorts of equations in gaining muscle mass that I'm just so confused now.

^ Hey thanks anyways. I'm 20 years old, 6 foot 1 and I weigh 197lbs. As far as my weight training routine...I don't have one that's why I'm asking for some help here. I know all the exercises for all the muscle groups and different parts of the body. I am just not sure about how to gain muscle mass and size while losing some body fat.

Hey guys... I want to lose some weight (body fat) but bulk up (increase muscle mass and size) at the same time. I asked some other people and they said in order to lose weight I just have to have a good diet and do cardio exercise. So for the past few days I have started eating right (cutting out: chips, ice cream, cookies, etc...) and also eating less (6 small meals instead of 3 big meals) and I've been drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit and vegetables and doing some cardio. I have lost about 2 pounds in the past 5 days so that is going fine. But I'm confused as far as the bulking up part goes. Because I heard to bulk up you need to eat A LOT. But I'm actually eating less now than I was before because I'm also trying to lose body fat so how do I eat more and bulk up when I'm eating less and losing some weight? Are there any good diets for people like myself who want to have a combination of losing body fat but gaining muscle mass and bulk? Could anyone suggest some eating tips for me? Also as far as lifting weights goes: how many reps and sets of a specific weight should I do in my lifting exercises? How long should I wait in-between each set of the same exercise? And how long should I wait to start a new lifting exercise after I have just finished the previous one? Would you suggest taking any supplements? Protein shakes, bars, Creatine, Muscle Milk? Any of these? And one last thing...do you think I should just break up my weight lifting routines into 2 categories for separate days like: Arms/Back ; Abs/Legs and work each of those twice a week maybe? Thank you in advance...sorry for the long drawn out question; I worded it as best I could.

UFC/NHB illegal in California?

That's what I'm talking about. It doesn't even have to be UFC fights, I just want to go to some sort of NHB fights. Even if it is amateur. Where is Susanville? And when do they hold these fights? -

Thanks everyone! I'm liking this forum already. In most other forums nobody cares about someone "Just stopping in" to introduce themselves. -
Thank you for that post! Very informative. So basically what you're saying is I should go to this Muay Thai training center and just talk with the instructor and tell him that I am new to Muay Thai, new to Martial Arts having never taken any before and I would like to start, and HAVE to start with the very basics because of my inexperience. And then I should just let him take it from there? Because he should know what to do right?

This may sound like a stupid question but I am curious about it. I am thinking about joining a Muay Thai training center to learn. How exactly would I be taught by the instructor though? I mean I would be the only new guy and everyone else would be there for weeks, months or maybe even years. And they are going to be at a more advanced level, learning more advanced things. And I am going to want to start with the very basics of course so how will I learn those if everyone else is already in the advanced stage? Will the instructor just teach me alone? Or do they usually have a class with all beginners? And even then the "beginning" class would probably have guys in there that have at least been doing it and learning things for weeks. So I wouldn't want to miss ANYTHING. I hope this makes sense to you guys. I really am curious about how I would be taught, starting from the very basics and working my way up when everyone else will already be at a higher level.

I have never taken a Martial Art before but recently have become very interested in learning Muay Thai. I'm almost 20 years old, 6'1 and weigh 200lbs. Although I want to lose around 10-15lbs. So I would start training in Muay Thai when I was probably about 190lbs or so. I have long legs and arms. Looking at all this it seems I would be good at Muay Thai. Some questions I have are regarding where to go. I looked in the Yellow Pages in my city (I live in Santa Clarita, California) and they only have 1 Muay Thai training center here. The link to the training center is below if anyone would like to check it out and give me their feedback? http://worldmuaythaigym.us/index.html It says on the site that it is a "Professional Boxing Camp" does this mean it is only for Professional Muay Thai fighters? Or it is open to everyone, even beginners with no experience but trains in a professional manner and atmosphere? Are there any questions I could ask the instructor to find out if it is going to be worth my time and money that I would put into it? Do you suggest I look for some more Muay Thai schools so I have more of a selection? Rather than just one? My goal as of right now would be to fight in the UFC/NHB type matches so I am very serious about finding a serious instructor with a serious but fun teaching environment that I can stay with for years until I achieve my goal. And could any suggest somethings I could do to get into shape before I actually do join a Muay Thai training center? I already know I should do a lot of cardio...I'm trying to eat right as well but I'm kind of lost on what I should and should not eat. Thanks for any input.
