Thats how my side kick is, any higher than waist/chest high and I have no power, now with my roundhouse kick, i still have loads of power head high. BTW is it possible to get that power into those lacking high kicks? Anyone have any ideas on how to do so?

http://www.terminalvertical.com/programs.html Check this out, it should help. and anything that makes your legs stronger can inprove your vertical. And calfs don't help "most". I mean don't skip over them or anything but jumping power has alot to do with your quads. so just check out the link.

I used to have a bad rage problem myself. I would just fly off the handle for the smallest sillyest reasons. It got to the point where the rage was so intense I couldn't calm my self down. I would punch walls and doors, I would smash things. It even came to where the only way to calm my self was to cut myself. Just the sight off blood was extreamly soothing. Well all that is about 3 years behind me now. I rarly have these fits of rage anymore, and if I do I no longer have to resort to hurting my self. What I would sudgest would be to take a honest look at your life and Try to identify the things that bring you stress and anger. You wight also want to start practicing zazen meditation. I know that this did a great deal to help me. Remember rage should never rule a martial artist. Look at it as you would any other probelm and find a solution that fits you. Maybe all you need is to find a good friend to talk to. In any case I hope I have at least some help to you. Good luck.

Ah yes that helps alot, Thank you much One more question. I understand the chicken snap kick cuz there's a kick like that in my style, but how would you do a ckicken wheel kick? Thanks again

Like a hook kick? Yeah I duno about the chicken kick. But It was like Chicken snap kick, chicken thrust kick ect. Anyways thanks guys.

Just a few fast questions. I always enjoy reading about and comparing different styles, but alot of times moves and techniques go by different names. While reading over a list of kicks found in the kenpo style I noticed 2 or 3 kicks and did some searching on google but I can't find much info. So I'm just wondering if anybody can tell me what these kicks are. Wheel kick Chicken - wheel - snap - thrust... And what does it mean when it says "shuffle"... Like shuffle side kick.

Well, when you break it all down it is isometrics. And it doesn't affect your long range punches because you train at all ranges, far, middle, close and very close.

Flips and tricks I don't think are meant for combat. I find them just plain fun. And that's about as far as it goes.

The technique I am referring to involves pressing your fist\palm against a wall at 4 different distances, as you tense and push with your entire body. The idea here is to strengthen your arm so that if you do have to punch from a very close range, your arm is already used to exerting a high level of force it this position. I know I may not be explaining or wording this well but maybe you can get the jist of it. SevenStar - Sounds almost like a form of iron fist.

Isometrics can be great way to supplement your strength training routine. An isometric exercise is when you are forcing a muscle to work against an unmovable force, Such as using a weight machine where you have set the weight so heavy you can't possibly move it. Pros: Can be used to gain a great amount of strength in a relatively short amount of time, and does not increase muscle size. Cons: Only increases strength in the position you do the exercise. Lets say we are using isometrics to increase our punching strength. You will stand in front of a wall and press against it with your fist, but since isometrics only increase our strength in the one fixed position you train, we must do this exercise 4 different distances from the wall. Far, middle, close and very close. What exactly are you trying to achieve? Isometrics can be used to strengthen pretty much anything from your face to your toes. If you give me an idea what you are trying to do maybe I can give you some pointers. Also It can't hurt to do a search on Google. Some times you can learn more searching on your own than relying on other to do the leg work.

It is better to learn from someone who knows what they are doing, but some times this person is not always easy to find, or afford. Some things, such as martial arts training, for the most part can not be learned on your own, but if you are just trying to learn a backflip or something, watch a bunch a videos of people doing it then go try it.

I came across a training routine for developing short power a little while ago. What I found interesting is that this technique does not seem to be that wide spread. Anyway I was just wondering if anybody else trains in or has seen any techniques for developing short power, and if so what sort of techniques they are.

CadetRay- What is you height and weight now? 30 lbs in 3 months? This is not only unrealistic, but unhealthy. Besides, you're young and have plenty of time to get there. Like SevenStar said, shoot for next summer.

I also have problems with arthritis in my elbow and wrists. I've read that taking up to 5 grams of ginger a day is suposed to greatly help reduce pain and swelling. I am just starting this treatment myself so I can't say first hand how well it works, but heres hoping.
