i agree. If someone is being robbed, they have no idea what the robber is thinking or how serious he is about shooting the gun. and when i boils down to the robbers life or yours...which one are you going to pic? All these laws in place to protect the robber...Now I'm not saying I would go crazy if that happened, but I would do what I needed to do protect my life or the lives of others. Those people who lobby those laws and lawmakers have obviously never been put in the situation where because of the robber, they had to take extreme measures for their life. We should never side with thieves.

but that's also assuming that it's a punching attack. Fights can also be tackling, grabbing, strangling. Again, it all depends on how the fight is going.

there is no fighting in aikido. It's for self-defense. Aikido, is not ment to be a fighting art. Really what aikido is, is training the mind to over come tendences so you can react to a situation. Aikido helps you find your center. It helps you give and draw energy to and from everyone. But, there are lot of good join-locks and take-downs that are pretty useful. Aikido might be able to hold it's own in a fight.

I agree...this can end up hurting your credibility in the long run. Though making money is good and you will have to do this full-time, never forget why you started teaching in the first place!

hey there! Welcome to the forum!

I think the option of walking away is always there. But sometimes..you will have to stand your groud for whatever reason. I don't think there is a bully out there who at one point doesn't deserve to git knocked straight in the face. I don't think violence is the best choice. But it works both ways. The attacker or bully choose violence and sometimes it becomes your life or theirs. If one punch in the gut will keep a bully off your back forever, then you should punch him. I don't think anyone should have to go through mental tormant either. I guess In short, I believe you should do what you have to do.

where do people come up with this stuff? -
i dunno...but the picture above was one white belt.... at my dojo, we have 3 instructors that have a belt that is wears down to white. But mine and my other friends belts don't wear down. The 3 that wear down are heavier than ours and are made of a different fabric...what kind of belt did you wear down? Because I don't think my belt can do that...it will just get really soft and fade. But i don't think my belt will ever go white.

We use newspapers adds. We get some good responses from that.

I would highly recommend seeing a doctor before attempting to do anything yourself with it. It could be nothing serious but you could also have developed an infection.

hey there! Welcome to the forums! Good luck with your martial arts training! As schools go, it just depends on who opens what in your area. Sometimes no one in your city offers the style you want.

17 year old wanting to start

Congrats on being interested in starting the MA! first off, does that place offer any teenage or adult classes? And second, depending on the type of art they teach, you'll find that most people (especially adults) are there to get into shape. But even before you start it is a good idea to start looking at your diet and see what foods you should cut down on or get rid off. Then get started on a good diet plan (and when i say diet plan I DO NOT mean adkins or south beach. I mean a lifestyle diet with healty food) It would be a good idea to at least cut down on fast food if not stop eating it completely. Also, eat smaller meals. It will help you build good eating habbits. If you usually make yourself 2 tacos. Just make yourself one. It will train you to no overeat. And exercising is very important. Running, jumping jacks, jump rope. Even walking is better than nothing. And I also recommend going over to the Fitness forum, you will find it a big help! Now is it really important to start doing all this before starting a MA? No, but it will get you healthier and give you more energy and indurance to train. But you will build all that during your training to if you are committed. -

Apparently I was supposed to be promoted to orange belt at the beginning of march. But my name wasn't on the promotion list so I had not idea. Then today when I went to class I noticed my attendence card showed that I was promotoed on the 3rd. But, i wasn't there that day. So supposedly, i've been an orange belt all this time wearing a yellow belt...haha..I guess there was a mix up and they forgot to tell me. I'm getting my real promotion this thursday. (I hope i'll be there this time. ) And so is my sister (she's going to yellow!) and also, kind of ironic, I just made orange belt on this forum too. It's been a good monday.
