How you've dealt with verbal things
Oahngoji replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Before I get quite a lot of insults from some of my classmates, and i usually ignore them. But this did not work. After awhile, i started to respond by insulting them and kind of threatening them by means of using karate skills. This worked out great, and now, i laugh with them and become friends with them~~~~ -
Awesome new tactic

I tried it on my colleague (which is a higher level than i am) and it didn't work. This is because he tried this tactic before!!! ^~^ -
A cool drill we did last night.
Oahngoji replied to Dijita's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey, Dijita, you are a kyokushin student!!!!!! It is really rare to find kyokushin or a shinkyokushin student around here. Anyway, i really like the drill, and yes, the drill really improves your toughness of your body when unexpected punches come at you. I really want to pratice that drill TOO!!! -
I don't really like to use fancy kicks, because the more fancy the kicks are, the lesser power the kick is. I am a fan of kicks though. Kicking is more powerful than punching, thus more effective when using it.

Funniest things soon while performing kata.

How do you know the rabbits are doing "it"? They might just be playing with each other??? -
My karate class takes up to 2 hours long, and sometimes i still think there are a lot of things that we did not cover. Karate has so much to learn that the time can be infinite.

Yes, I know many people pratice karate so they can chop wood boards. Karate is definitely more than just that, karate improves many aspects of human nature. So yeah, karate is more than chopping wood boards.

Lift your leg up, turn your face to the direction you are kicking, and turn your body, and try to kick upwards. Don't attempt to kick really high when you pratice, make sure you stable your balance!!!!! Good luck

Use up your opponent's energy. By doing that, circle or make quick movements to confuse your opponent. When you get aa chance of seeing an exposed opening of your opponent, strike that spot.
-
I was taught to concentrate more on the opponent's eyes and shoulders, so you could see what he/she is trying to do.

Hands and legs are both important, without one of them, it would just like be losing a weapon. But since hands are more sensitive then legs, hands are more important (sometimes, you find yourself being able to do something with your hands but not able to do it with your feet).

solo practitioners, masterless masters?
Oahngoji replied to InsaneTigerCrane's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think that you should just forget about your coach and move on to learn things that can improve your skills. What you learn in martial arts is more important than not forgetting your times with the coach. -
It can go both ways. One who has great strength + skills + mind control can easily beat a weak, bad mind control person. It varies depending on each person. But in philosophical terms, the development of the mind is more essential in martial arts.

no, i am sorry, i don't study Eugue-Ryu. It doesn't really matter what club you are studying, the most important thing is that you are learning karate. So don't worry!
-
You don't really have to remember the katas and kihons, because if you pratice a lot and know the functions of the moves, then you should always have it stored in your mind.
-
It doesn't really matter how old you are. The only thing you should be concerning is that whether you apreciate karate itself.

A kata is a set of fixed moves of which trains your basic skills and lets you know how to react when you are in combat. Kata is actually the art of karate.

There are no secrets. If you tie your belt too tight, then you will not feel uncomfortable, so just make it natural, it doesn't really matter how tight it is, cause after vigorous activities, you will found yourself having to tie your belt once again.
