You could try whenever the dad try's to correct something thats wrong, and he's wrong...SHOW him why its wrong, and the right way to do it. That way the father AND the child will learn the right things together.

kung fu in the streets
danege replied to xxaznboii207xx's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
That depends on everything. If the Kung Fu guy is better he will win. If the other guy is better, then he will win. -
To quote the page: "We practice certain concepts and in these drills we are working on basics: Structure. Sensitivity. Reaction time. Root, not moving backward. We feel you need to have these concepts before you can move on to more advanced concepts. NOTE! These are only some training concepts, only basics, they are not the real thing. There are many other concepts we will share as we put up more videos of how we train." They are only the basics. Im sure these guys at a higher level do other types of sparing.

New guy here, questions.
danege replied to ducktapehero's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
You could try some health Tai Chi untill you feel up to it and then get into the fighting aspects of it. -
Ten pounts per lesson seems wayyy to expensive to me. I pay $50 australian a month, and i have anywhere up to 4 lessons a week. If you work that out its not much for what im learning.

Lead leg fighting
danege replied to Belasko's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
do you mean like a TKD backstance? If so, im not a big fan of them. They may work for some people, but for me, im more of a 50/50 weight distribution and a very rooted stance. -

Most definately. Thats what martial arts is all about. This is a little bit of a poem that i think sums it up perfectly. "If you meet a Student and you know he is an evil person; then you would not teach him even for 10,000 pieces of Gold. And if he is not Righteous and has no Honour, You would not teach him even if he were your Relative. But if he is Righteous and has Honour, You should teach him even if he is a Stranger to you and has no Money." So yeah, i think you should let him train for free. Maybe he can help you out in some way to repay his training, or just let him pay later on, or just give whatever he can.

Yeah, custom made mouthguards are the way to go. I had one when i was little for playing footy with braces. I'd tried the ones you buy that you can mould yourself and stuff, but they sucked. Then i got one custom fitted and made and it was very comfortable and i could breathe very easily. If you can afford it, its the best option IMO

Just to clarify, i can see that were thinking different things. I was talking about leaning forwad from the hip (which is what i though you were referring to) not just hunching forward a little. Leaning forward from the hip causes disjointment and is horrible for your balance. So yeah, i can see where your coming from, and i agree with you

Spiritualy test ready
danege replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Do lots of breathing exercises, thinking about the test, passing it...visualise your goals while doing your breathing exercises. And go through all your curriculum(sp) for your test. Make sure you know everything flawlessly. You have to know that your going to pass your test. Otherwise, if your not sure, you wont, or may just scrape through, which isnt really passing. Good luck with your test -
Im not telling you to bend at a 45 degree angle or anything, just a slight bend is enough to throw off balance. The more bent you are the less balance you will have. Also, im not getting into a UFC debate, because it will end up with people going "it works in UFC so therefore it must be the only way to do it." All im asking is that everyone look at things from a slightly different view. Did you actually try what i posted before? did it work? let me know how it went. Ive tried fighting all hunched up, but i found it didnt work for me. If it doesnt work for you, but something else does, then thats great and you should fight with what works for you. Now that i do agree with. Note: Im not trying to come off like an arrogant idiot, so please dont take me that way. Just simply trying to state what i works for me and what may work for someone else. Be open, have a go at something else, if it works or you got something out of it then good, if it didnt, thats also good because it re-inforces the way you do things.

If you dont believe me, then try it. Stand feet shoulder width apart, one foot forward with about a foots distance between your feet. Knees bent. 50/50 weight distribution with your feet. Bend your back slightly by either leaning forward or backward a little. Now, put one of your arms out and have a friend grab it and try to pull you off balance. Try doing it the other way: Same Stance as before. Make sure your feet are flat on the ground and your back is straight (picture yourself rooted to the ground like a big, 100 year old tree that nothing has conqured). Your weight must be 50% on each foot. Dont forget knees bent. Now get your friend to try and pull / push you off balance again. If you did it corectly then it should've taken alot more effort on their part. It works for me, and makes alot of sense, so i think ill keep doing it.

I fully agree with what your saying, however your arguing the wrong point. I was originally said that i dont need to cross train, not EVERYONE doesnt need to cross train. My art gives me everything, but someone studying MT for example will be lacking the ground skills to be effective on the ground, so for them cross training (whilst not being essential) is a very good option. But for me, it would just be a waste of time learning something im going to learn anyway in my first art. Now, whilst making sense to me, i must stress that im not in my art to "master it as quick as i can". The curriculum of lau kune takes 15 years to complete. (that info coming from my sifu)

So your saying that people that only do one art will be hopeless in a self defence situation? Lets review some things. Why would i need to cross train? Well lets go through a few styles i could cross train in. MT / boxing - No need as my art completely covers striking from both hands and feet. Bjj / Wrestling - No need as we do groundwork and takedowns and fighting on the ground against standing attacher. Judo - No need as we do ALOT of locking and throwing. If you knew anything about the art im studying you would understand what im talking about. I think that people do have a chance if they come across a group of 8 or so individuals, allbeit very little. However, in my particular case i decided to run, was chased down and had no chance to even put my hands up let alone try and defend myself. I was with someone else when it happened but they didnt get caught and didnt come back to help or anything, so basically i was by myself

With a bent back you have terrible balance and your body is easy manipulated / moved. Would you care to elaborate on your statement
-
Arms stretched out infront of the body (think expanding energey), hands infront of face, elbows bent (elbows are in the center of the body covering the line to the solerplexus). my hands are nowhere near where your thinking they are.

The kung fu i do is a complete system. We do everything, (ie. sriking, grappeling, ground work, weapons etc..) And everytime we do a drill, or learn a technique there is a strong emphasis on multiple atacker options and stuff. No need to do any cross training.

grappling dummy??
danege replied to jctkd's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Thats great and all, but he's asking about improving his grappeling technique. I hardly think a solid punch to the head will do that.
