Spear takedowns
mai tai replied to man thing's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I will admit that I don't believe you- because if I went for a double or single and the guy squatted, I'd do several things off the top of my head- pick an ankle, clinch and step one foot behind his and bring him down, or just plow right through him and mount. Also, it seems to me I might be able to take his back. i agree accept i would not use as many options i would just plow through and mount. in wrestling we called this rail roading someone. ussually it happened when both guys were down in a kinda neutral postion and on guy got on his toes first. to me (unless im not understanding what your saying) is close to saying the best way to avoid getting taken down is to imediatly jump to the floor -
can you give me an example of a lethal technique? besides chokes

Hands considered deadly weapon?
mai tai replied to drunkenninja's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i have had to register my hands as deadly weapons. in fact i cant take them into a bank or court. i think my feet are pretty deadly to but i dint get them registered, so im just keeping them illegally, hope they dont get confiscated -
when i was in tkd i always thought the tournaments were rigged. in the sparring you ussually really had to dominiatly beat an asian to get a win. (especally if he was a student of a renoun master). in forms not a chance asians never lost. it was like 1,2,3 korean then the rest. i also trained tkd in korea for a year (was stationed there in the army). ther they were openly racist. in fact they dont even think anything is wrong with it. and not just in the dojo. for example i have been told that only koreas can own property there. also they are hate interracial relationships and are always talking about keeping there race "pure" i trained in thailand also for 3 weeks (pleaseure trip) they were very accepting and if there was racism i didnt see it.

i know pockets hate people who use physics to explain things. but i dont believe in the ki. or any other chop suey stuff. in my opinin we live in a physical world and we cant escape that. when we say power we are not refering to the scientific term but more as to how much damage on inflicts with there fist. if you want to use a formula us the kenetic energy formula. 2 KE=1/2 mv or one half times mass times velovity squared. by watching this you can see how how hard you can hit takes into account speed size and technique. first speed...... by the formula this is by far the most important. if you could increase your speed you would hit much harder. however while this is possible (form, explosive weigth training and plyometiric). it is also very diffecult to make great gains. for example last yeat at the corporate challenge i ran the 100meter i ran an 11.2 if i could improve my speed a scant 10% i would be a world class sprinter.(instend of a science geek posting on the internet). next is mass obviously if you can improve your mass you would hit harder also.(providing you dont sacrifice speed).this is why big guys hit harder. if your trying to get bigger so you can hit harder becareful.if you compete in a weight class sport. (boxing ,nhb, muay tai, wrestling jujitssu) because an artifically big person will not have the larger bone structure to take blows or the reach advantage of a naturally big guy. this last part is technique...by throwing a propper strike you will move faster and your mass will be higher. ie if you just arm punch it will be just your arms mass. if you turn your shoulder and hip into it it will be a much greater increase in mass

mai tai replied to Grenadier's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
what about the corny 80s montoge wher hes running around town trying to ditch the cops. the sceene when van damn tells the reporter "im just trying to be the best i can be" the butt shot for no apparent reason the hoky blind "feel the force" type thing chung lees taking the bikers head band. quite posible the worst if not for 1. no retreat no surrender....the ghost of bruce lee trains some kid in an abandoned house 2. gymkata 3. the last dragon -
florian also has no busness in that wieght class. way to small...when they found him i think he was a 145 er. all in all its easy to be critial when your not the one in the ring. i ALLWAYS know what the other guy should have done.

mai tai replied to G Money Slick's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
on bruce. you put me in a movie and make me the star ill beat evreyone of you. in real life not so much why dont we have a forum catagoy for bruce lee. this way i can avoid it like the plague. favorite fighters. 1. boxing...tom hearns ...with his great power and glass jaw SOMEONE was going to get knocked out. james toney cause i worked out with him and hes a nice guy 2. muay tai...lady boy..cause the story was so funny. by the way i meet her/him in thailand 3.nhb 1. graci...cause he showed that a grappler can win 2. marice smith...cause when it looked like ONLY grapplers could win he showed that a striker could win. 3. frank shamrock.... lets abolish sriker grappler thing and lets all be fighters 4 vanderla silva..... cause he looks like a caveman 4. k-1 mark hunt...cause when im with the guys from the gym watching k-1 i get a kick out of calling him mike hunt. 5. real pro wrestling..... jeff prescott ..cause i wrestled him in high school 6. tkd who else ...lopez 7. wrestling greco roman....rulon gardner...who would think this sack of patatos could win anything let alone beat the mighty kralin. (btw he won his pride fight to) 8.old school karate....chuck....btw this is why we want actors like bruce in movies and not fighters honorable mention to ron artess nolan ryan rob ray dyrall strawberry and jeff vangundy -
Tournament Terror
mai tai replied to parkerlineage's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
when i was in high school. i saw alot of fights. invarable westlers would win. even in straight out fist fight. why because when most people get into ther first fight they get what get is adrenilin poisoning. (fear, pride trepidation and anger all rolled up into one) people would lose there head. cause they cannot "handle" the adreniline. westlers would win because they were much more used to this due to the adreniline you get before a contest. everyone feels the same way when they first start to compete. rarely can a guy take the training room self into a competion. do as many comps as your religion will allow (i wouldnt mess with the guy upstairs for martial arts excellance. and the fear will get less.notice i said lesson. i have had been in pro boxing, mauy tai and nhb fights and i still get nervous. not cause im afraid to get hurt but im afraid to look bad infront of family and friends. (i know that sound sad and pathetic but i care what the think) if i was alone on an island and no one would know the out come (kinda like prison love ...i would fight anyone. mainly cause i love to fight most of the time i when im walking up to the ring, if there was a side isle to take and i wouldnt look like a total coward i would run away. after the bell rings i seatle down
