I used to play Mortal Kombat and have matches as different charaters with their unique moves. Those were the days... -
martial arts scary in some peoples eyes?
Kara replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I said yes, becuase MA is Dangerous, it is painful at times, it is practiced so you can inflict Pain on others as form of protection. It is Scary in most aspects, you are trying to ensure pain or death as a way to protect yourself or ones you love. The things you do look scary to people and the effects are supose to be painful when it's for real. Practicing in the Dojo can cause injuries to you and to others. Most people will not put themselves in that position to be hurt. You flinch when your sparing even, because you are scared of being hurt if it even is by accident. I totally agree that MA is Scary. That doesn't mean no one should learn different forms of MA, it may even suggest that it's something to overcome. I think that once someone trys out and learns something then they will not be so harsh on the impressions that the media keeps reminding us of all the time. It will be something to enjoy like most of us do, and it will improve our lives in it different ways. You all may know this, but maybe to answer this poll you need to ask the people outside of the forum. -
When your instintly in a good mood when you see someone training in the park as you drive by on your way to work. When you wake up and are vagely aware that you just made a skilled* technique and there are no more blankets keeping you warm. When your looking forward to going to class, that your there over an hour early cause you didn't look at the clock to ensure your timing. When you go to grab someones arm who was beside you to practice a self defence technique you were just going through your head.

ya know... Everything here is valid, in my opinion. For me I could not even do one from the toes. NOT ONE! it took about a full week everyday, trying to complete one. it took a month to do 5.... Ya really weak in that aspect. but I got up to 50. I did reps of 10 - 5 times, all under 15 mins. however now - since I havent been doing much of anything... Man! I would be lucky if I could complete 10! At the moment there is stragistic plan developing to get my butt in gear. I would also suggest switching up the position of your hands too. It will strenghten other areas and your become stronger. I have read (in this thread I beleive) that your biseps are only as strong as your triseps. Good point. Calistetic practice can help alot, especially for push ups becoming easier.

Chaotic Good Human Bard Good/Chaotic: Not okay with order, rank or laws; Alignment: Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups. Race: Humans are the 'average' race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live 'for the moment'. Primary Class: Bards are the entertainers. They sing, dance, and play instruments to make other people happy, and, frequently, make money. They also tend to dabble in magic a bit. Sound preaty good (besides the preforming infront of people-doesn't seem like me at all)

Girlfriend says Karate is taking over my life!
Kara replied to disarm's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My terms are that; I am going. I will devote my time and energy to it. I will sacrifce things other then my job and home for it. If you have a problem, then maybe you should go find something that modivates you the same way... And no, It's not me. I have had the pleasure of training with my pervious guy. It was wonderful becuase he had the same or more devotion to it. -
It's that time of year again.... How do I know....... Oh I totally had a Cream Egg Mcflurry =)

So which on is it? Back leg Roundhouse OR Reverse Roundhouse? And how come we don't know this already....? :S Though I can't seem to get Out of the habit of Sparring with my lead leg. It's faster then attemping the extra distance and displaying an extra motion, allowing a counter from your aponent. Faster you can get that foot up to their head, less they will see coming. Reverse Roundhouse is not something I have been able to Practice yet.

I AGREE WITH YOU. THOUGH PEOPLE MAY NOT REALIZE IT AND THINK THEY ARN'T. I BELIEVE THIS AND CAN ADMIT THAT YES, SOMETIMES IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, I AM, HARMFUL OR NOT, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

Security Should Not Have Batons In My Opinion. For A Simple Reason That Most Officers Are Not Issued Weapons For Offence But More For Defence. Security Is More Or Less Just Monitoring. Law Enforcement Should Be Issued Metal Batons I Think. There Is Not Much Someone Could Do To Defend From one. It Would Be ideal. A Wooden One May be A Standard Weapon Though I Can Not Think Of Much For A Comparison For The Two At The Moment.

Ha! Funny! Agree! As for your questions Dylan.McCullough; I'd say for *best suitable MA for street fighting - something with good self defense. *best for physical/mental strength - a traditional style. *and endurance/toughness - any style + your dedication. I find that not all styles donimate in Self defense. After Practicing Goju I have noticed that the self defense are very effective. TWD as I am in currently does not seem to have much self defence and I feel that's where it lacks. I find it stronger now, that I'll imagine situations to create techniques for self defense, not for entertainment but for instintive aspects. I feel vulnerable, without continuous learning self defense techniques. I really can not say about other styles. I do feel though that the grapling styles are not much help to me with me need for basic techniques and not throws. you should find a style that involves both in some form or another.
