No offense, but that was a HORRIBLE movie...I saw it on Sci-Fi Channel, and couldn't stand it. The bad part is, this wasn't the first time he's done a twin thing, if I remember correctly. Van Damme has several rules when making movies: 1. He HAS to have lots of screen time. Lots and lots. Even more than most starring roles. Best solution: have a twin. 2. He MUST (and this is an important one) make out with at LEAST one girl. 3. Everyone else's acting must be horrible, because he can't act himself. (although I thought Timecop was pretty good as far as his movies go) Notice this is also true with Britney Spears. 4. He must be able to survive impossible situations, i.e.: Being blown up. I mean, he could have C4 out the wazoo (even stuffed IN the wazoo ), have it detonated, and come out with maybe a few scratches. Notice this is also true with Britney Spears

hey ninja....those are terroristic threats. I think you can report them to the FBI or something and they can track 'em down. That's some nasty stuff though. Don't let 'em get you down!!

"Even my daughter's friends enjoy playing with this fun toy. I was surprised at how long they can just sit in her room and play with this magic broomstick" OMG!!!!!! I think I'm gonna hurl...

Welcome to the forums! Your style sounds a lot like mine...except that we still incorporate some flashy moves into katas, etc., keeping with the "art" side of martial arts. When it comes to self-defense however, flash goes out the window...as well as our agressors Look forward to your posts!

I have had this happen to me before....yes the best possible solution is to refrain from eye contact with anyone during the creed!

by disrespectful i meant coming up to your instructor and screaming at him.... Bascially I'm looking for goofy things, not mean. Remember folks, this is humor

oh and I'm supposedly "fire"

I think there is a topic on this already, but I'll reply anyway. I don't believe in the astrology, but it's kinda cool to see what you are...I was born in the year of the rabbit. Which shows how ridiculous it is, because I share no rabbit-like characteristics other than being small.

Are you from a relaxed dojo? Can you do stupid things and get nothing more than a funny look? Well so am I! Lately, I've been wondering what exactly it would take (apart from downright disrespectfulness) to lose a belt... Like taking a bo and lightly tapping your instructor on the head with it, saying "bonk on the head!" and running away...? What would you do??

higher, straighter kicks
monkeygirl replied to whaaa's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Kick Higher: a lot of this has to do with stretching...you need to be able to move your leg there in the first place, before you can kick that high! Do you "chamber" your kicks? (e.g. sidekick: bend your leg at the knee and pull it into your chest before slamming the kick out) If you do, bring your chamber up higher. This will definitely help you apply height. You can lean back slightly with your kick to help balance and move your upper body out of the way, but not too much. It can make the kick look sloppy, as well as throw you OFF balance. Speed is also very important; using momentum to really swing the kick. Make sure you're relaxed and well-stretched so you don't feel restricted as you kick. High kicking is one of my specialties, so if you need anything else in detail, just PM me ;P Kick Straighter: Try to kick something specific. You could put a big red bullseye on a blank space of wall. Stand with the target just outside your kicking range and very slowly kick out to it. Gradually increase the speed of your kick. This will help you aim your kicks as well as determine your range. When you get comfortable kicking at full speed at the target, raise it slightly to kick higher. Do this for as often as you can, working each leg and maybe several kicks, for a total of about 5-20 mins. To do in class: When kicking, try to imagine your specific target and kick at it. If there's someone in front of you in lineup, kick at their profile! If you use heavy bags, pick a spot on those at well. On heavy bags you generally want to focus on power and kicking the center of the bag, so this is a good time to work on straightening your kicks. Good luck! -
Here's another one: what is "uke"?

Bon especially loves the idea of dojo bunnies because he's a dojo hare himself I think he read this thread and got some ideas

Now, if he were constantly changing around the moves in your forms and saying "it's always been this way"...THAT's when you need to worry. Although, keep in mind; my instructor will sometimes alter forms to make them look better. However, he does inform everyone of the changes and admits that they happened
