Question about styles...
Edgard replied to Edgard's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Thanks, so I guess I'll just have to try it out and see, thanks all. Note:Thanks again for the time italian_guy, just outta of curiosity, if you check the dates, you'll see my I pmed you after I posted this topic. -
I tottaly agree, it's freaking 2005 shouldn't stereotypes have already withered away and died? A person should have a choice to do whatever they want. Back on topic, There's a kung-fu school near my place, very small (6-8 student's), no girls ... But once when I was invited to visit another BJJ place, medium(15-18 students) there was one girl there, she was a white belt, but she had been there for 5 months, quite the good fighter, but... she would only spar with her bf >_<.

Question about styles...

Thanks for the reply buddy. I suppose Chen and Yang are the "biggest" styles? After here in Brazil I already heard about Chen stlye... -
Yup, I get that too, but mine magicly desapeard someday, but I know some good streching exercises. Sit and cross your legs. Now, bend your toes downward then upward, do that 10 times and then do that on your other foot, now do the first foot again and then do the second foot again. Oh, I don't know how it work's but I know it works, Potassium is the key. If you mix all the above and still get cramps, well, you should really go to the doctor.

Thats your opinion, not a fact. I could argue the same about striking. The earlier generation of Gracies were pitiful at striking (Royce, Rickson, Royler,) with only Renzo's being adequate, yet they mopped up their competition. Even in modern mma, many wrestlers are so good at takedowns that they get away with having poor standup skills. Nope, you're absolutly right, I just forgot to mention a extremely important thing in my post, when I sayd what I actually wanted to say was Sorry for the confusion and Gumbi, nice post you did there Note1:I edited my original post, making it fit my opinion Note2:I'm still not sure about Tradicional JJ styles thing...

Well Brazilian JJ is good for self-defense, but if you only know bjj and you are a beginner in it, and enter a street fight without having a good base on punches and kicks, depending on who you would fight... you'd pretty much get destroyed. I can't say anything for sure about the syles on Japanese JJ, since my knowledge on it is pretty weak, but yes, your right, in Japanese JJ there's a lot of diferent styles. If there is one more street oriented? I don't know, I'd need to know more about Japanese JJ to say anything for sure.

BJJ street techniques
Edgard replied to pineapple's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well... five techiniques? I dunno some of the names in english but I'm gonna try to say and explain them. The mount- This is great, I mean, All your oponent can do is throw punches at you, but by doing that you can easily perform an arm lock The arm lock - Well, you can perform it when he got his back at you, when you're mounted or even when his standing (never heard of the flying armlock before?) "Homoplata" - A lock sharing the name of the bone in our back, it consists of(don't know any better way to explain it in english) holding you oponents shoulder and twisiting his arm backwards "Ezekiel" - A chocke(is that the right spelling?) that can be performed in any position, you put let's say for this example your standing in face to face to your oponent, your left arm around your oponent's neck so that your left arm's hand will be in your right, then, you right arm's hand must grab your left arm (that is in your left) with the palm facing up now twist you right hand so that your palm is now facing down and you little finger is near you oponents neck. Now a part of your right hand will be touching you foe's adam apple now, pull your right against(yes this will hurt), and your left arm is suposed to stop your oponent's head... err this means that while your right arm makes it moves it into a direction, your left one holds it in the same place, so you kind crush his neck. "Americana" - Well it's another kind of lock using your oponents arm, kinda hard to explain and it's usable in most positions Note:Sorry for the Bad grammar spelling and the horrid explanations, english is not my mother language, but I try my best. Edit:English is not my mother english? how could I miss that. -
I can't say if it's official, but usually it's practiced shirtless and with a white pant. But Maddwraph probably knows more about the fight than I do.

Well in Brazil I am starting what we call "Primeiro ano do segundo grau" in January 31st, remeber, in Brazil our school year starts january and ends in december... But if I am not wrong Brazil's "primeiro ano" is the equivalent of the second year of US' Highschool (US Highschool is 4 years right?) Anyway I'm gonna finish Highschool with 17 and gonna start college with the same age Note:Dunno if that's important or not... I'm 14.

I know you guys are joking but just outta curiosity what do you guys really know about it? I know kind lot about it because I am oblidged to studie it a in school... Where I am from... well? *points to location* j/k I'm Brazilian living in Brazil... If other members don't mind I'm gonna make a side remark for our "lusitano" friend. "Não se importa com eles não, eles tão só te provocando, eles (e o resto do forum inteiro) tão se divertindo aos montes com a discussão... não esquenta"

Well I voted muscular, becuase I am muscular more than I am overweight lol... I am 180cm or 1,80meters (6') and 95 kg (about 211 lbs) I am quite proud to say that in the last 17months(1 year and five months) I've lost 30Kg(67 lbs). Here's a observation: I'm 14 and I consider 180cm(6') a good height. My weight however... I actually could lose some body fat, and my total weight is that total not only due to the few body fat I have, I can totally say my muscles have most part of the guilt there, I can proudly say I'm big and bulky, I just don't cutt my muscles, but see me contract them and you will know what I mean
