Are you sure you're not thinking of getting in shape for the beach rather than MA? All the crunches and other isolation type ab exercises will not get those abs to pop or the V you desire without controlling your diet and doing more cardio. A great ab exercise gadget I recommend is an exercise wheel. Exercise wheels can be found cheaply and what's more work your abs, lower & upper back, arms and chest. hehe, its always nice to look good on the beach. But nah i want to get bigger as i have moved up classes in my MA and i want to move on to the next stage in my MA and life, which is getting stronger. I have seen this Exercise wheel i think...i might give that a look in.

Thnx, ive got an appoitment with the GP soonish to get it looked at. The V shape i think comes with more defined abs. Its the V shape underneith your abs leading to your groin area that i was thinking of.

Thnx, The crunches i do tend to be more of a crunching motion then a sit up..short but controlled. I never goo all the way up to my knees. Aodhan, you were saying about lower back pain/stress well that is primarily why i want to get bigger. The past few months ive been having lower back pain, tightness and my flexability has reduced a lot. Thnx for explaining what each area does in more depth. Does anyone know of any exercises that i could do to engage the areas i am not engaging. Exercises that do not rely equipment. Also would running exercise the other parts of my legs that squats do not? I am trying to achieve all round physical conditioning like Meguro said. Im not looking to be a body builder, but to be healthier and fitter as not to lead to inury. Also its nice to be more muscular. lol.

Use the search function. This has been discussed ad nauseum. Aodhan Ok then, Well for now ive got this. Stomach crunches for abs (sit ups) Crunches left armt to right knee, right arm to left knee. Push ups in the normal way. Push ups were you put your hands together and make a diamond shape (would be helpful if someone explained exactly what part of my arm that exercises) Squats Tri Dips Running And then my usual stretches. Can anyone think of an exercise for the "V" shape muscle, or does that get worked with crunches? Thnx.

I'm sure you've read hundreds of these posts but heres my situation. I want to beef up some. Im not looking to get bigger in specific areas to help with my MA as my MA training will help there. I want to generally beef up, get six pack (or close to), get bigger all round my back, legs and arms. And also the "V" shape on the stomach leading down below. Now im not in bad shape now, but i need some help with what exercises are good for training each area. I have no weights. "Beefing" up in general will help in all areas of MA and generally my health so i reduce the chance of injury through strain. Just really need some direction/help as to what specific techniques/exercises to do. Thank you.

Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?

I know it isn't unique to certain countries but it is most common in countries like these. Im not saying that these people do not need to train. But the training style is different obviously UFC contendors need to be more athletic. Ok fair enough you've seen broken bones in UFC. But have you seen a man on UFC grab hold of someone's arm and then smash their elbow? No, you see armlocks armabrs etc and they are done to cause pain and yes it causes pain because you are bending the arm and bone the wrong way. But they do it slowly as it causes more pain you don't just see em grab hold of the arm and *yank* the bones broken they do it slowly to get the submission. You see armlocks armabrs etc and they are done to cause pain and yes it causes pain because you are bending the arm and bone the wrong way. But they do it slowly as it causes more pain you don't just see em grab hold of the arm and *yank* the bones broken and then get up and go for the other arm. They do it slowly to get the submission. If the bone breaks while doing ther submission fair enough it happens but it happens because the guy has failed to tap but the guy doing the armloc etc wouldn't gone out to brake his arm he would have gone out to get the submission. -

Mine would be, Give everything a go don't be affraid to try stuff out that you don't think you can do because most of the time you can do it. It is just in your head that you can't. -
Whats the REAL deal with martial arts today?

Gumbi what i ment by Traditional martial arts not being seen in the UFC is that. The martial artists in these non-sporting MAs would not come into the octagon and i personally don't think they would be able to compete because they wont have the stamina. But the people who live in the philipenes (and other countries like this) and who have to protect themselves everyday from muggers and just general fights learn how to quickly seriously hurt someone or even kill if need be. Im pretty sure in the UFC ur not allowed to get someone in an armlock and the just snap their arm in 2. If it happens by accident while doin a submission that might be allowed but ive not seen any bones being intentionally broken. -
thnx ill prolly remember that for years to come.
