My instructor is taking me through 3 hard style katas before i obtain my black belt. The first kata is called Tago one. The next is called Neon five and the final one is Phase three.

Has anyone else heard of these katas and is there any place that I can get a list of the moves (especially the last 2).

I am an instructors assistant at the Tai Chi school I attend. I usually get to teach the basics. (ie. stepping and the first several movements of the form) I am now working on the sword form and the Yang long form. (103 mvmts.)

My official title is Kalejekai. (I still don't know if I spelled it correctly). I had fun sparring with the kids tonight. Even though they are cute, they can still pack a walop of a punch. I t was fun to watch and even do a little bit. (After class, the other 2 black belts and I hung around and did some drill work. Now THAT was cool.) later.

There are several websites one can look at that give a lot of history about Bagua and look at some of the teechniques. I have just begun my study of Bagua and it looks like it is going to compliment my Tai Chi style just nicely. I will keep you informed on how the crossover is.

I have studied the internal arts (Yang Style Tai Chi) for 3 years now. I have also started to pick up a little bit of Bagua along the way.

While I am not in Dallas training at my dojo, (summer break) I have been working out with a 4th degree black belt friend of mine who owns his own school. He teaches a hard style that is a mixture of several different Japanese martial arts that was started by Grandmaster Henry Williams in Jax, FL. His system is called KOTANA Karate. I really enjoy taking this hard style and I have started to work towards my black belt in this art.

Last night at class, the Renshi (junior master) called me before the class and presented me with a belt that was made by the founder of the art. It is nothing more than a white belt and a black belt which has been cut in half and then sewn back together by the grandmaster and founder of the art. He then called me by my new title (Kujeki) [that might not be the correct pronunciation or spelling] and promoted me to the rank of assistant instructor. I was given this honor because of my time and rank in my internal art and because the crossover for me to learn a hard style will be much easier than a person who is taking MA for the first time. I wasn't expecting this and am very grateful to my friend for this honor. He said it should take about 18-24 months to get my black belt in this style and when I get it, I will just turn the belt over to the black side. This also allows him to teach me any technique he wants to from white belt up to black belt as opposed to being taught what is just in one's belt. I wanted to tell all of you publicly and to thank him for his kindness and confidence in me. I want the black belt so bad I can taste it. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Thanks.

I am a Christian and I am currentlty studying to be a pastor. I have no problem calling a sensei or teacher "master." He or she has worked hard and obtained that rank and I will call them that out of respect for the rank. It is not a "worship" issue, but a respect one in my book.

My grandmaster is that way. He is old school Chinese style of teacher. The only contact we have with him is when he is teaching us in the class (when and if he decides to come in that day). We are allowed to email him and ask him questions, but outside of class, there is no contact. At the end of the class, he does take a few minutes for questions and we can ask him anyting then or thank him for some insight or training we recieved, but that is pretty much it.

Mine is self explanitory. You will never do something if you don't start or try it first.

Our school requries us to keep a journal. We must turn it in as part of our test to promote to the next rank.

I have music degree so I know how to play most of the traditional instruments and I have played trombone for 16 years. I now teach music (band director) while going to school to finish my masters degree. My favorite instruments are low brass. (trombone, euphonium, tuba) and pipe organ.

at my school, a master is considered a 4th degree blackbelt or higher. Right now the only BB at the school is the Grandmaster who is a 9th degree BB.

The Meteor hammer is used in Chinese MA (Wushu, Shaolin) I have seen one, but never used one.

Right now I only know the Jian. I have heard that both are great, but are used different ways.

I don't know. That was just weird. Further study is needed before an actual intelligent hypothesis is formulated.

I have a question.

Does the palm "weaken" after successive breakings and at some point will it return to normal?

Does one have to keep the "training" up in order to keep the palm strong?

what (if any) type of damage is done to the palm over time?

yes, absolutely.

This should not however discourage anyone for with hard work and determination (a good teacher will always help to) you can achieve whatever goal you desire.

I would encourage you to try out Tai Chi. It will compliment the hard style you are doing nicely.
