  1. I've always heard 9th dan is the highest you can get, but I'm not positive...
  2. I've been training in TKD for about 10 years, and I have a 3rd dan. I got my first dan a little over 3 years into my training. But it really depends on the school, because I've talked to other people in tkd and its taken them 4 or 5 years to get their black belt...
  3. I feel.... embarrassed by my terribly small collection of weapons: 1 pair of nunchaku 1 pair of tonfa 1 bo staff 1 pair of sai 1 ekubo (sp?) ..........That's all, folks.... No more here to see....
  4. Hey.... In tkd, what is the order of forms once you reach first dan? I googled it, and it said Basai was the first dan form, but I learned it as a red belt... My first dan form was Koryo. Then 2nd dan was Kuemgang, so I guess my new form is Taebaek... Does it just depend on the school or what?
  5. Ummm.... We call our instructor Sah Bum Nim, except when he's teaching Kubodo (My school offers both), then we just call him "Sir".
  6. For sparring, I tend to use peechagee and jumping back kick a lot. I'll occaisonally throw in a 360 roundhouse, but not often. But for my tkd demonstration team and for board breaking, I like the "flashy kicks" like 360 hook kick, butterfly kick, etc. My favorite overall kick would probably be 360 hook kick.
  7. My school used to use the pyeong forms, but a few years ago we switched to taeguk.... I never asked why.... hmmm....
  8. I passed my 3rd dan test today!!!! Thanks to all of you that helped me find info for my essay. We had to prepare 6 one-step sparring techniques, 6 self-defense techniques, 4 breaks (I did a jumping back straight kick, 360 back straight kick, 360 back hook kick, and hammerfist), and, obviously, we had to know all our forms. Yay!
  9. We do that at my school and I've never really thought about why... You see it in other sports, like in soccer, if someone from the team that you're playing is injured, your whole team would take a knee until the person was off the field. I guess it could be intrepreted as showing respect and privacy to your opponent as he/she recovers. I dunno...
  10. Thanks everyone!
  11. I'm 15, and testing for my 3rd degree in a couple of weeks.
  12. We use the Taeguk forms... I don't know how much help that tells you, but that's about all I know. Thanks!
  13. Hi guys, I'm new! Anyway, I'm testing for my 3rd degree black belt soon and I have to write an essay on the history of forms, what they are, and why we practice them. I was told by my instructor to look at the Japanese background. I was just wondering if someone could point me to some sites where I could find this info. I've tried googling, but it hasn't come up with much. Thanks!
  14. I began tkd when I was 6, and recieved my 1st degree black belt when I was 10.... I think that if someone is mentally and physically ready, they shouldn't be denied what they are capable of... Anyway, that's my two cents. By the way, I'm new... Hi guys!
