Bourne Identity fight Scenes... what style of fighting is used in them? Where can I learn how to fight like that? (no "it's just a movie" comments please).

Preventing that ground fight.
OxygenAsh replied to Kensai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In my experience, one has to practice with grapplers to know how to counter their takedowns. Strong legs (in a solid stance ala Wing Chun) are helpful too. -
Good WC fight videos?

He's my Sifu. Even better. I like his videos... I haven't found many instructional videos online that aren't just about showing off instead of genuinely sharing information. You might want to suggest that he turn the music off when he's filming though... it makes it a lot harder to hear him sometimes. Otherwise, kudos. If my current training falls through that's probably my next art. Interesting point. I dont use videos myself, but I guess I'll relay the message to him. About my initial topic... I checked out Mcdojo website... It's not exactly what I was looking 4. I meant where can I buy high quality videos of fights? -

My experience with multiple attackers.
OxygenAsh replied to OxygenAsh's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thx for replies, guys. Yea, I was kinda stupid and lucky. Moving around would have been natural, but till the last moment I was hoping there would be no fight. Moving into a fighting stance would have provoked it, I guess (as if my making an issue of the whole thing in the first place didn't). Mi nose and jaw have healed by now and for the future, I guess I'll carry a knife or something heavier. And keep walking when not attacked. -
Hi. It's ironic there was a big discussion about defense aganist multiple attackers and just recently I experienced the situaton on my own skin. I was returning from college in Queens, NY, at night when a couple of kids went by, one of them flashing his hand a sentimeter away from my face. Normally I would have probably just went on, but something really stupid inide of me decided to make an issue out of it. So, I called the guy up (twise) and he turned around and approached me, leaving the other kid and two chicks behind. I asked why he did what he did, but he was just playing a rap star, talkin' BS, so I got frustrated, told him to go f himself and walked away. Not so fast. Around 8 of his buddies were just comming by and their leader informed me, he's gonna "fuck me up," demonstratively taking his coat off. Well, I didn't say anything, just stood there. The other guys surrounded me. Not to waste time, I didn't even see the punch - it probably came from a person behind or to the side. I blinked my eyes and while they were closed, I heard about half a dozen more punches landing on my face. A moment later I was in a crawling position on my left knee and left arm pretty much. Several more punches came, this time from the right side. Then there were no more punches and I got up. I called 'em fuckin losers and sort of complained that 1on1 wasn't offered. The leader replied he can take me 1on1, but not as loud or enthusiastically as before. I approached him, punching his in a jaw, full weight. When he fell, I punched him twise more. He didn't move. No1 else moved. I picked up my book I had with me and walked away home. For the record, I've been practicing boxing for 4 years and Wing Chun for 1.2 years. Care to comment on my story? Thx.

My sifu fights blindfolded. Wing Chun style.

How so? From what I remember of being in Karate tournaments, none of the basic moves in Wing Chun would result in a disqualification. That's an option I'm looking at right now, but it's not a real priority to get into tournaments, imho. Will I be allowed to kick at opponent's knees? Execute curved punches instead of just basic ones from-the hip? Lock opponent's arms? Use pressure points techniques? Fights without any protective gear? Fight non-stop until one of us is down and defenseless, no matter the points?

I'm curious... when did it all start? I mean Chinese Martial Arts. Who / what group was the originator? Also, I know that MA were exported from China to Japan, Middle East and other places. I'm curious how wide-spread the impact of Chinese MA was in the ancient times and how influencial it was to development of MA in the world in general. Thx guys!

Wing Chun
OxygenAsh replied to --'s topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I practice Wing Chun and in the past I did boxing. I'd say Wing Chun is more effective than boxing, but also more complicated. In short term, a boxer will probbaly win. In long term - Wing Chun fighter. Long and short terms are different for different ppl; for me a year of WC was enough to return to my boxing school and kick the **** out of some guys who did so onto me in the past -
Not the practice stuff. Not the collectors' stuff. Not the bull. The REAL FIGHTING WEAPONS! ANY price.

Wing Chun clip
OxygenAsh replied to ChangWuJi's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
The clip has a prearranged fight, of course. It doesn't reduce it's value by more than 20%, though. Ironically, I find Wing Chun technique display there pretty bad. Try going to http://www.sifugrados.com and take a look at some of the free clips there. (btw, that is from the school I attend). Tell me what you think. Thx. -
Ad: I understand your point that boxing seems so full of good fighters because there is a lot of $$$ in it. That is, of course true! I don't try to deny it. However, as some of my friends who possess years of training and experience in MA and myself watch boxing and kickboxing fights, we inevitable conclude that kickboxers' hand-work - if I can put it this way - is just not on par with their boxer counterparts. Take a look at a good kickboxing fight and than watch Roy Jones Jn. There is just a tremendous difference in the quality of fighting and kickboxer ain't on top. Also, some ppl here make an argument by bringing up how they did this and that. Well, I was boxing in the past and I had a fair share of kickboxers and tkd opponents. I always defeated them faster and easier than my fellow boxers by cutting distance right in the beginning and not letting them to retreat.

So ironic... almost every1 claims a kickboxer will defeat a boxer... Your arguments are sound (i.e. a kickboxer has a greater POTENTIAL arsenal of moves), BUT... Consider this: First: you've seen professional boxing and kickboxing matches, right? Can any of you claim that the kickboxers out there are as good in thir "boxing" part as pro boxers? I think not. In fact, every kickboxer I've seen (on TV and in real life) has the same problem: their attention during training is spread out among so many things that they inevitably end up inferrior in their old-school boxing technique to boxers with the same experience. Second: Kicks are powerful, no doubt, but they have a serious drawback. They put the kicker off-balance, making him vulnerable to counter-attacks. Now, most of the fight takes place on a distance where a step forward would bring fighters into punching range, which means that the long-range value of kicks is greatly exagerated. In fact, with traditional boser's defense skills, he can engage kickboxer without any problem at all 99% of the time. Therefore, the kicks are not necessarily an advantage. A good boxer will make them kickboxer's disadvantage. My opinion? It's all about a fighter, of course, but who of you will deny the we simply have a LOT MORE good boxers than kickboxers.
