  1. For pure strength, you should concentrate on heavier weights with low reps (5-8 rep sets with the last rep being an all-out effort). Most people would recommend that you perform compound movements that work several muscles at once (things like squats, deadlifts, benches, pullups, etc.). Also, you might want to read up on 'periodization' schedules used by bodybuilders to cycle heavy workouts with lighter ones. The basic theory is that your body will eventually get used to whatever it is you throw at it, so choosing low reps/heavy weights will someday lose it's effectiveness. If you cycle in some lighter weight/higher rep workouts, this may actually help you in the long run.
