Hello all. I have been doing cross country and track and field for two years now, going into my third year. Each day my coach can emphasize nothing more than properly stretching each muscle before AND after every race and workout. I stretch at least twice each day and spend about 45-60 seconds on each major muscle group. Anway, to the point, I am incapable of doing anything close to a split. A martial art instructor the other day saw me stretching and suggested splits. I was so embarassed of how high I was the ground when trying it, about 8-10 inches. Can someone please help me out and give me advice on what to do about this problem? I want to have better flexibility throughout my leg and I believe the ability to achieve a split is a key factor to faster, stronger and higher kicks.
