  1. I guess none of you are very knowledgeable in either one
  2. Hey guys I'm Sean. I'm new to these forums but not new to martial arts. I've dabbled in shotokan when i was younger and wing chun but never really made it past yellow. Some styles i'm looking into now are japanese jiujitsu and shaolin kung fu
  3. What is typical training consist of in Jiu-Jitsu. I know their sessions are always longer that karate sessions. Do they teach kata's similar to that of karate?? Also how is the belt progression there. Do they progress the same way as in karate or is it longer or shorter? Thanks
  4. Hi I am a student at Carleton university in Ottawa, Canada. They offer this shaolin kung-fu there. Here is the description: This ancient Chinese art incorporates the unique and sophisticated techniques from Chinese Kempo, Praying Mantis and Tiger/ Crane Kung Fu into a dynamic system of empty hand self defense. It is based on the scientific laws and disciplines of physics, leverage and kinesiology. The objective is to better yourself through the sharpening of both mind and body. So what do you guys think? They offer it 2 times a week for a 10 week period. Then 2 more 10 week periods follow.
  5. Hi I'm not really new to martial arts or anything but I've never trained in a particular art past white belt level. Nevertheless I'm trying out shito-ryu karate tomorrow and right after I'm trying can-ryu jiujitsu all at deschamps martial arts academy. I was wondering a few things about the both. First off have any of you trained in any of these 2 arts before and if so can you tell me what its like training in them. Do you feel that shito ryu is effective on the streets? I was also wondering in the can-ryu system has any katas in them. I know it teaches strikes, punches and kicks on top of the standard holds and throws but i was wondering if there was any forms of katas in the art. Thank you for your time.
