  4. I moved 700 miles because my job decided after 9 years they were going to screw my wife and i over, a u haul for that distance is almost 2 grand so my father in-law and i made 3 trips (15 hrs there and 15 back ) with a 16 foot trailer . hehe but anyway moving sucks and if i ever have to move more than 20 miles again im selling all my stuff or giving it away i would have done that this time but i also had to pack up my house in 3 days .......we , and when i say we i mean my wife have ALOT of "crap" oh well sometimes drastic change is good , or at least keeps you in check broken rythme indeed
  5. aye this book says its 31 volumes , but they mostly cover military tactics, troop movement and all sorts of arts or war , this "shortened version" i supposed to deal with just the martial arts aspect as far as i understand.
  6. FYI Best.Forum.Ever (yes i just joined a few days ago)
  7. i just started reading the Bubishi , translated to english and edited by George W. Alexander and Ken Penland . as far as i know not many sensei or instructors incorperate the teachings of this manuscript into their schools or at least not the schools you see with big adds in the newspaper. for thoese of you who dont know what it is The Bubishi is considered by some to be the "set karate text of the masters" or so it says. it deals with pressure points, "secret fighting techniques of kempo" , Dim Mak or death touch , using the blood gate system , this post is directed more twords the more experianced martial artists ( instructors and such ) as someone who has trained in shotokan karate for a little less than a year and is about to begin kenpo with as much of a "white belt attitude " as possible going in should i not even read this book (which came with a video ) and try to incorperate it later or should i continue reading it and hope it doesnt inhibit my new training or new beginning , also i am reading the Tao of Jeet Kune Do~ which im almost done with already , but that is more of a directional , its not all about death touches and knock-out points. anyway just curious as to yalls thoughts.
  8. I think im about to start training in kenpo (thanks to P.A.L for info ) i see alot of you from texas i know there is a big institute in austin anyone around midland area ? also ,excuse my ignorance, but are there any weapons taught in kenpo style ?
  9. I voted staff simply because how often are you gonna be able to carry nunchuka or a katana around with you .... but you could easily snap the head off a mop or broom or pick up a stick , i suppose in that aspect you could use a stick like a sword or cane or a few other types id have to say i love the katana tho , dont know how to use it even tho i own one but id love to learn.
  10. P.A.L.~ why in your opinion would i not like korean arts after training in Karate ..... just curious., personally i was considering training in kung-fu or a softer style to compliment my karate but once again mostly tkd around here, btw where was that kenpo school located around here im looking into kenpo style right after i post this =D
  11. Hrm , well aefibird this school seems to think mu duk kwan is very similar to shotokan , some kata even retain japanese names , also he studied under a "shotokan master" for a few years and he teaches aikido which i saw listed under your styles , i tried to go by the school today (not thinking it was labor day) but ill try again he offers something called Hsien Do which i have never heard of but in the phone book is called "the ultimate art of self-defense" i think ill try that out for a bit i hope it will be like shotokan mixed with aikido with a tkd twist , ill post more when i find out . till then if anyone knows about hsien do , holla at me.
  12. just moved to Midland, Texas cant find anything but tae kwon do here any info would be appreciated.
  13. Hi, i have been interested in martial arts for as long as i can remember but never could afford to learn till i was of age (18.) and moved out of my parents house . i studied Shotokan style karate in lake charles , louisiana , USA and have recently had to move to midland texas well the only style they seem to offer around here is tae kwon do and im not a big fan of high kicks , ive called the schools around and one of the instructors has assured me that mu duk kwan is very similar to shotokan , even tho as far as i can tell it is still a korean art can anyone confirm this ? also he offers a style hisen do ( never heard of it ) or does anyone know if there are any non-listed or underground schools or clubs in the midland/odessa area .. thats Texas, btw =D any info would be greatly appreciated thankyou.
