You may be correct. Ed Parker was instructed by Chow, who was instructed by Mitose, Okizaki, and Chow's father. I think it's probably safer to say most of them came from Chow, but yes, you could say Mitose was involved with all of them. I think. Peace; Parkerlineage (Woot. Orange belt in Karateforums for me.)

Have you ever heard about a student failing a belt test?
parkerlineage replied to Bleeding Lion's topic in Karate
I very much agree that a good instructor will not generally allow a student to test without being ready. That said, sometimes, if you have a student that is absolutely positive they're ready, and won't listen to you when you say they're not, we let them test. And, of course, they fail, because they're not ready; this humbles and teaches them. I failed my purple belt test the first time. My instructor failed his orange belt test his first time. Obviously, not everybody who fails drops out - and they might even end up better off for it. Peace; Parkerlineage -
Hey guys, don't knock it. I'm a tenth degree black belt in Kenpo, Ninjutsu, Jujitsu, Kendo, Shoryin Ryu, Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwan Do, Tang Soo Do, Aikedo, Hapkido, Do-See-Do, and John Do. At least my certificates from e-bay say so. Keep making fun and I'll kick some e-butt; Parkerlineage

I've never heard of any of those techniques...of course, while I was testing for black in Chico, they had a few yellows I didn't recognize, either. I guess there's just a bit of confusion as to what's what on the early belts - everything else seems to be pretty much the same. Peace; Parkerlineage

Do you still remember and practice the early kata?
parkerlineage replied to baronbvp's topic in Karate
If you want to stay proficient at the advanced kata, you better practice your basics, too. After all, what do you build off of if not the basics?...(isn't that why they're called that?) In our dojo, we start with Short Form 1 (White belt kata) - everybody, even the black belts - and work our way up through Long Form 3 (Green belt kata) (Short 1,2,3; Long 1,2,3). We don't even get to Long 4+ - you have to practice those after class if you want to do them. Basics are your base...without a base, you're...baseless. (This has been Zen Quotes That Go Awry And Mean Nothing) Peace; Parkerlineage -
I pay $60 a month... It sounds like you guys don't have to pay if you teach, am I right? That's pretty cool... Peace; Parkerlineage

Sorry to be nitpicky, and I'm sure this has been said before...but it just ticks me off... Doesn't Elektra hold her sai WRONG? She'd get her fingers lopped off if she tried to catch a sword or bo. At least from the poster I saw. I haven't seen the movie. Peace; Parkerlineage

BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAARRGGGGGGHH!!!!!! (That was me throwing up, in case you wondered) The sai, hands down. Well, we only have three to chose from (staff, sai, and nunchaku) Peace; Parkerlineage

Already way ahead of you on that one...hehe I posted on that thread. We shall rise again, like a phoenix from the ashes, or a (something imposing) from (whatever the imposing thing rises from)! Peace; (Goodness, I'm hyper, in case you hadn't noticed) Parkerlineage

Eleven Freakin' Awesome Years, Baby! Whazzup, my Kenpo brothers and sisters (and mostly cousins)? Just got a nice little note from Red J on my pathetic Kenpo Roll Call of my own, and thought I'd drop in and revitalize this thread. Or at least be momentarily annoying. As stated above, I've been training for eleven years in an Ed Parker system American Kenpo (Lineage: Chow-Parker-Planas-Halsey-Me). I've been a black belt for the last four years, though it was junior because of my age until a few weeks ago (Don't knock it, or I'll tie you up with my white-striped second degree junior belt, then beat you with a wet noodle). Hopefully, I can bring some useful insight, not so useful insight, and just plain annoying sarcasm to this thread. Let me know if I do anything to be of assistance, such as shutting up. Peace; Parkerlineage

Woohoo! We've got some rank in here, now! Nice to see ya, Red J. I certainly will check out those threads. Keep coming, my Kenpo Bro's (and Sis's (?) ) Peace; Parkerlineage

Random update on my statement (like anybody really cares). I now like Long Form 6 (also known as Vomiting Birdies) (Not really) (Inside joke with anybody who knows the kata, like there really is anybody on this site that does) better than 5, and 4. I still love 3. Peace; Parkerlineage

Have you heard of, or do you practice, Splashing Hands?
parkerlineage replied to baronbvp's topic in Karate
I love that style. Very useful in the pool or bathtub. (Just being an idiot). Peace; Parkerlineage -
Making A Fist
parkerlineage replied to a2's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
In answer to your first question: A vertical punch can best be defined as when your kunckles form a vertical line (toward the celing and floor). *--------- *---------- *---------- (---- are fingers, * is knuckle) *---------- *---------- In AK, we use this strike mainly for hitting the face - the hard bones in the skull with jack up your fist if you do it horizontally, which is when your knuckles line up on a horizontal (side to side) plane. * * * * * [ [ [ [ [ As for your second question: In AK, the optimal punch is thus - you begin with your fist upside down, back of your hand toward the floor. It should not be tightly clenched, but mainly held loose. This will add to your speed. As you punch, you will rotate your hand to where the back is pointing at the roof as your arm extends. Try this in front of a mirror or something - the reason we do this is because it will keep your elbow from deviating out. At the last moment before impact, you will tighten your fist (providing snap and more power), as well as complete the rotation crisply (again, more power). And we all thought punching was easy... Peace; Parkerlineage -
I dunno. I'm just as lost (if not more) than you guys are. But thanks for the responses! Peace; Parkerlineage

I like to get thrashed by Professor Halsey. I actually hit him on a few occasions, but mostly, he just beats the crap out of me. Can I say crap on this site? Oh, well. He has enough control to not injure me, though. He did give me a bloody nose, but I'm sure I deserved it. Peace; Parkerlineage

I meant Kenpo peoples. Thanks for the reply! Peace; Parkerlineage

Or, you could do it the way we do it in my dojo... There are no teenage girls. The oldest girl kid is 12. The youngest woman after that is mid 30s. Poor me. Guess I'll have to stick with the soap operas at my high school. Though, I was thinking about trying to convince my girlfriend to start taking karate (she wants to). Bad idea? Peace; Parkerlineage
