  1. Hello! Now that I have moved to Hawaii, this dojo that I train in now, known as Japan International Karate Center, they emphasize alot of stretching. So now whenever I am bored, I am always stretching, and I realize now, how much that really does improve your techniques and stances! I am mostly working on legs alot, so my stances can be deeper, wider and have greater kicks. Does your Dojo emphasize alot of stretching, and if you do it in your free time, what kind of stretching do you do? Im just curious, because I am sure there are plenty of other stretches out there besides the ones I have been using for 7 years.
  2. Those of you that take karate, and are still in school. Im not planning on this or anything, but if you had no other choice, and were in a fight at school (usually let the other person attack first) what technique would you use first? I would probably use some normal kumite wazas, but if the person was seriously trying to do damage and hurt me, i would probably use a shulte palm strike to the nose, or kick to the knee. but you never want to use those unless you have to
  3. ha! thanks! that should help me out! usually when im sparring in class, i cant think up techniques fast enough, maybe this should also help me out
  4. ive noticed improvements. thx!! quick question, what would shadowboxing be?
  5. Does anyone here know, or practice and techniques or excersises to train your reflexes? (having faster punches) If so, could you give me a couple pointers? Thx. =D
  6. ahhhhh!!! im NEVER going to get it..... i just dont know what to DO!
  7. Well, ive been practicing alot over meditation right? Working on clearing my mind, focusing on one thing at a time. Well today i relaxed my self alot, and just focused. Well anyway, i think i actually fell into the state of meditation, but im not sure. Ill describe the situation. It all of a sudden gets quite, and i feel like im not in the same place anymore, it just feels like im in an open area. It felt really weird, so I stopped, but when I opened my eyes, i felt really awake. Is what happened to me the right thing? or am i just weird?
  8. well the problem is that i have a habit of moving back when the other person attacks..
  9. You can always do what we do at our dojo. You can get an assistant, or a sempai, to watch the other group.
  10. When you meditate, what do you usually focus on to clear your mind? I just started, so i usually just stare at one opject or just do the counting thing....but i dunno if im doing this right.... any suggestions?
  11. ah.. i never thought about it... hmm.. thx for the help.. i have karate tonight.. so im going to see how that works... =)
  12. ah, ive done worse... every day in the dojo we do about 25 knuckle pushups... and since im 1st kyu, im really used to it... our sensai tells it that it strengthens the punches.
  13. Hey, i need some help from soneone if they could. In Karate, i generally perform my Katas and warm up techniques good, with sharp movements and stuff like that... but when it comes to sparring.. i always seam to be the weakest.. im a brownbelt with black stripe too... does anyone know what my problem could be?
  14. man.. ill tell you.. this is all confusing... Theres all these posts on Ki/Chi and hoe people say its real and not real? And i just dont know what to do. I definitly dont believe in the Ki blasts and stuff like that.. But about concentrating and focusing your energy into a martial arts technique to make it a bit stronger...
