  1. The film Enough starring Jennifer Lopez use Krav Maga. On the Dvd there is a featutre called Krav Maga:Contact Combat it explains in brief how is was started and what is involved very brief (about 10 mins maybe less) it has some demos in which people are attack and people who know KM defend themselves it is purely for show no contact. The feature was helpful is making me decide against KM as my chosen MA as even though it is very effective I didn't like how violent it seemed I want to stop myself from being attacked not turn into the attacker this is the impression I got from KM that the people who know it don't stop at just stopping the person from attacking them they attack back which I think is wrong. This is just the impression I got.
  2. My definition of Martial Arts is that it is a skill you learn to defend yourself.
  3. You could be there is no actually way to tell as you don't stop growing till you are 21 some people say your parents reflect your height I disagree as my mum is 5'7 and dad is 5'10 but I am 6'3 I was quite small when I was younger but then began to grow. Everyone grows at their own speed. I am only 17 and still growing so I don't know what height I will end up.
  4. I think dating in school is best avioded as it can cause problems during the relationship and afterwards it can affect your training and also your bf/gf's training and if you break up you might not like going to that dojo because that person goes there I personally wouln't date in school as I go there to learn martial arts not pick up girls and while I am there my entire focus should be on learning my chosen MA but that's what i think
  5. I wouldn't see why you have to register but you shoudl declare you know certain MA's because you know how too injure somebody very badly you have been trained to do that.
  6. I don't think I would quit if I failed the grade I was testing for I would be more determined to get it next time I would train twice as hard and make sure I got it but maybe that's just me.
  7. I do not agree with any type of discrimination anywhere every person is unique but they should all be treated with the same respect whether it be in the dojo or the workplace nobody should be judged because of their skin colour or sex or ethnic origin or sexuality.
  8. I would love to do this type of training at least 3 years I wouldn't do it straight off thoguh I would have to have a bit of MA Training before I went just for my own discipline.
  9. Kali,Escrima and Arnis are the 3 stick fighting styles. Also is you are looking for books check out the web Google, Lycos, Ask Jeeves search on them or try Amazon they sell books and videos.
  10. Welcome to KF. I am also choosing to study WC and all I can say is that the people on this site will tell you what they know about WC and that is it you must make your own mind up go to the school you are choosing watch a few lessons speak to the instructor and the pupils and decide for yourself
  11. I think that if somebody attacks you then you should be able to use what MA training you have learnt to defend yourself. If however you are say in a bar or club and someone wants to fight you tell them that you are trained in certain MA and could hurt them. someone said in a earlier post that you shoudln't do this because women don't say they have pepper spray right women don't say that but in telling that person it might make them think twice about starting fights.

  13. The Kill Bill Volumes are a pair of great films they are made well enough to be and individual films but also when you have watched the first one u really want to watch the second that is Tarantino's brilliant way to make a film. (please note SPOLIERS are going to be used) ************************************* * * * * * * * Kill Bill Vol.1 This is the more action oriantated of the two there are a few fight scenes with the climax at the end in the House Of Blue Leaves in which The Bride takes on O Ren Isishi's personal gang The Crazy 88's then Gogo her bodyguard and the O Ren and kills her. There a certain moment in the film that are very well done with The Bride going to Japan to see Hattori Hanzo and get a sword and also to get her big toe wiggling in the back of buck's truck (found that quite funny). This film in my opinion is not as good ask the second as I think it is a gore fest don't get me wrong I like the film but I just think a little bit more background on the characters might have been nice. Kill Bill Vol.2 The Volume were it all happens. I like this Volume better than the other one as there is more dialouge and background about the charcters. Only one thing that bugged me was right at the beginning you see The Bride driving and saying that only Bill is left to Kill this didn't bug me a first but when she tries to kill Budd and she gets buried alive I knew she wasn't going to die because of that opening sequence. ( that was the only thing that bugged me) there are many good parts in this film with the fight between The Bride and Elle Driver and the teaching from Pei Mai I won't spoil Vol.2 that much but anyone who has seen it will know what happens. Overall I would recommend these films to anyone as they are great very well done and worth owning in a collection.
  14. I like watching most styles but traditional kung fu always fascinates me. Jackie Chan is good as it Jet Li. Jet Li does Wu Shu and is very good he trained since he was 8 and was National Champion 5 years in a row. He is very quick and has a lot of skill I like watching him. Jackie Chan is just a legend his ability in Kung Fu is amazing he knows so many different styles but in his films he shows even with his skills he can still get hurt so he is human after all he is just great. His best film is Drunken Master pure genius. More modern Martial Arts actors that I like are Steven Seagal and Wesley Snipes they are both very good but very different. Seagal is an Aikido student and therefore doesn't attack he turns the attack onto the attcker, I like watching him because he mostly works with his hands and throws people his hand speed is incrediable. Snipe on the other hand is a more no frills type of fighter he likes studying Martial Arts that are to his taste but he doesn't like and fancy techniques simple and effective suit him. His styles are Karate, Kung Fu and Caporiea (sp) and he mixes all 3 styles to suit his tastes
  15. Cory Yuen/Yuen Woo Ping/Samo Hung Enough said!
  16. Belgian accent and I used to really like Van Damme until his films were basically all the same I think his best films are Bloodsport Kickboxer Hard Target Replicant Inferno Donnie Yen is more or a behind the scene type of guy he wasn't actually meant to play Snowman in Blade 2 until he was asked he likes being behind the camera more but is still good in front of it. Shangai Knights is a good film for him and he only did it because Jackie wanted him to because Donnie can fight and knows the rythym that Jackie uses and they also respect each others skills Bruce Lee Jackie Chan Jet Li Wesley Snipes Steven Seagal Dolph Lungdren Jean Claude Van Damme Jason Statham
  17. Drunken Master Police Story 2 Fist Of Legend Legend Enter The Dragon Way Of The Dragon Master With Cracked Fingers These are all great films which I would recommend to anyone if they like Martial Arts. I like most martial arts actors: Snipes, Seagal, Van Damme. But I also like the other martial arts actors: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Samo Hung, Bruce Lee.
  18. The injury I got was actually quite funny. I have been hit with baseball bats, sticks, dropped brick on my feet, hit by a car, rode into a wall on my bike, severed a tendon in my left hand trying to shut a door but the worst was definately my collarbone. I broke it playing rubgy and it was pure agony to walk or have and pressure on my arm so i spent the rest of the day sat down. I got to hospital at 6pm and wasn't seen till 9pm then was told I would have to have an X-ray which wasn't done till 12 but I only got painreleif ( i.e tablets) at 11.30. (hospitals are not great in Britain)
  19. I am hoping to start WC very soon and I was wondering what equipment is needed and also do you get graded as is most MA?
  20. Thank You for all the feedback it is very helpful. I am thinking about going to watch a session soon, I am laso taking into account what was said on doing group lesson before private I will think about that as I will be able to meet other people.
  21. I am from Cheshire and I have been to 1 club which is close to my home Cheshire Martial Arts Centre they teach both JJ and WC I am not sure if they teach Aikido. I researched the club on the net found out costs, instructors, styles, training times. From the site I found out that in Wing Chun I would be training in Yip Man's style (Bruce Lee's style before JKD) and that my Sifu would be Tong Lui (if anyone knows him or has heard of him let me know please) Lessons would cost £5 per lesson and are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8.30 til 10.00pm on both days.( That is a Group session) I would prefer to do Individual Lessons as I learn more quicker, I found out that I can do the lesson when I want at 7.30 til 9.00pm at a cost of £10+ per lesson that needs confirming. I am only mentioning what info I got on Wing Chun as I think that is the style I most want to learn. BTW Do you study Wing Chun and if not what other MA's do you do?
  22. It does in a way the History behind Wing Chun I already knew but thanks anyway. I am leaning more towards WC as I do want to learn to defend myself. I know you get to train in Weapons are Nunchuku included in this or would you have to train elsewhere. Do you know of any sites that gives a in-depth look at WC and what is involved. Aikido I have only just learned about Steven Seagal is a 6th Dan now maybe higher and he trained under Aikido's creator O Sensei. I think I will start Aikido later in life as it takes a long time to learn. Any additional information would be helpful on all martial arts the 3 mentioned in particular. Thanks
  23. I am also confused in what style to to start with. I did a little bit of Karate when i was younger (aged 7 til but the club had to shut down due to lack of funds. My interest in Martial Arts was still active but I would watch films on it rather than train. I am 17 years old now and I am thinking that I want to get back in to Martial Arts again but am confused at all the different styles. I found 3 styles that interested me more than the others, they are Wing Chun Kung Fu ( Yip Man Style) Aikido Ju-Jitsu I am being drawn to Wing Chun more than the other 2 styles because of post on this boards that say it is a good to learn and then you can base other MA's on it. Any feedback woudl be great. Thanks Sean.
