  1. I remember my yellow belt days! Congrats! and sorry about the back....unfortunity the testing gets harder everytime you become a higher rank. Hope you get better.
  2. Yeah... definitly some splits! Let me tell you.... ive tried the whole split thing and it actually works. Just make sure you do it slowly at first and only as far down as you can go. DONT PUSH YOUR SELF TOO MUCH! but besides that you should be fine. Most likely follow battousai16's advice its good!
  3. The only reason i would suggest Goju-Ryu is because that is the kind of karate i do... i dont know all that much about shotokan. Plus, i have done a research project on Goju-Ryu so i know more about it.
  4. I am so glad no of you guys and ladies rated your dojo as bad, yet. I know some dojos may need a little of improvement, but a least you are learning something. Maybe if your dojo has something it needs to work on... try bringing it up with your master or teacher, and find a way to improve your dojo. Thus making everyone that much happier.
  5. Hey im Okinawan Goju-Ryu... and curently a orange belt
  6. Im just wondering how fellow karateka think of their dojo? How would you rate your dojo?
  7. Hey JUNE1 waz up? i have been doing karate since the summer of my junior year of high school. I started doing karate because of my senior project and it so happend that my favorite teacher was my master. Here i am in college now and still cant get enough karate. I just want to try as many styles as i can. My dojo is awesome... the people totally kick bum ( seriously...no joke) and i love it. I believe since i went to a dojo that had a family-like atmosphre, it helped my liking of karate more. I have also grown an intrest for anything japanese! I just love the way karate or any type of martial arts have change the way i look and feel about the world. So here i am now with my orange belt hoping to become a black belt someday, looking towards my future years in karate.
  8. I love sparring... i find it a great way to realese the built up anger and fustration in your life. However when you do spar you do it with respect always for your fellow karateka. What i wear when sparring or what we are required to wear, is a foam padded head, hand/wrists, foot, shin, and mouth guard. Sometimes, depending on who you are sparring, you might need the torso padding. Especially against those big scary guys, lol. Anyways its good to be safe than sorry. YA KNOW??
  9. Well my kiai sounds more like OOOss! What we do in my dojo, is we have to blowout a candle with our kiai. Which is really cool, i thought. I always get complimented on how loud my kiai is.... it just comes from the gut. I love doing kiais!!
  10. Just wanting to know who else is in the same kind of karate i am in, and maybe talk about it...?
  11. Oh no Major_motoko!! someone needs teach them the right way to tie their belts!! Before it catches on to newer members... which could be a disaster if ya know what i mean
  12. Make it tight!! Thats the trick...
  13. Yeah i am part of Goju-Ryu karate do!!! i am apart of the dojo "Rising Sun." I love Goju-Ryu
  14. Yeah, i know what you mean. My mother thought i was putting too much time into my martial arts studies instead of god. She thought i was going to convert my religion. But i kept telling her she was wrong, and i wouldn't do somehting like that. I love my martial arts however, i love god more. I mean he is my number 1 thing. Nothing else comes before him.
  15. No, i am not. I believe that i am ready just as long as i put up a fight. It also depends on how it happends too. But i wouldn't mind living a little more. Im still too young to die yet, but i am not afraid to go.
  16. i was in goju ryu karate do but i am now going to college. there are a few dojos nearby, however i do not know which one to go to. None of them has the kind of style that i was apart of so i would have to start over again in a different style. However, i do want to take up a different style. Tae kwon Do or Judo, i don't know what to do. Somebody HELP! PLEASE!?
  17. The reason i started my martial arts training was for my senior project (a project in which we pick a topic very new to us, and do a hands on part, then write a 10 page paper, then do a oral report) in high school. We do this instead of a high school exit exam. My science teacher from 8th grade was the master of his dojo and has always wanted me to do karate. So i did. After my project was over, i continued because i loved it so much. I just love the self defense, excersize, and relaxation of the body and soul that goes along with it. Thus is why i continued. Now that i am on my way to college, i plan to find a dojo nearby to continue my training and earn my black belt.
  18. I like the belt system we have, but it feels like it takes forever to get from one rank to another. The teaching ranks always confuses me. My dojo goes by> white, purple, yellow, orange, blue, green, brown, and finally black.< I just wish we could cut it down just a tad.
  19. I would definitly prefer my Gi to be black. It is very sexy and sharp. I think someone wearing a black Gi to be very mysterious which is very kool. Alot better than my white Gi now.
  20. Some dojos are huge and some are small. Smaller ones tend to less people thus it is easier to know most if not everyone who goes to it. The dojo I have been training in is small, and i do know everyone who goes to it. I and my master like to call the people in our dojo a family. We are all there for one another. We keep a good atmosphre enviorment in our dojo. We may sometimes joke around, however we maintain our respect and courtesy towards the dojo and what it stands for. Im hoping more dojos can be like this. Dojo families supporting those who start a martial arts continue their training and succeed. What do you think?
  21. Yikes! Vito sounds like a killer! of course you will use as much force as needed. I mean if your attacker is trying to kill you...yeah, then you would kill rather than be killed. But only if and only if. Don't just injure because you want to, Do it because you have to. catch my drift?
  22. Hi everyone, I couldn't agree with Kazuya more. It doesn't matter what you wear or look like. All that matters is that you have strong spirit, and concentration on what you are doing. Just keep focused, and you will be all right. I know i wear make-up when i go to class. Only because i feel naked without it.
