  1. ahh I see. alright then. And thanks for that link RedJ
  2. so does Kenpo include the Shaolin style kung fu influences? Or is that only Kempo?
  3. I was referring to your comment here.... I assumed that was directed at me.
  4. Well yes I do know the differences between the Kempo and Kenpo being Japanese and Chinese dialects, yet I had always figured that some sort of Kempo had originated in China, and that was Shaolin Kenpo. But yes I see how Shaolin Kung Fu must have been the major influence that made him call the name that. In the style of Kempo I train in, the 5 animal kung fu is a major part of training. And yes Drunken Monkey, I haven't been doing any real research so sue me
  5. How is Shaolin Kenpo not true Shaolin? If I am not mistaken, Shaolin refers to the styles of martial arts, Chinese Shaolin monks practiced. If they concocted Shaolin Kenpo, how can you say it is not a "true" Shaolin style?
  6. break up your sentences? hehe.... "Martial Arts training is less valuable and practical and very much gymnastics/sport. Not authentic" What?? You think that all martial arts is worthless, and that it's as useful as gymnastics?
  7. I can see it being true.....I just don't buy it
  8. Hey the tried and true method that I teach as a devastating end to most fights, is a side-kick to the side of your opponents knee, then cross cover with your hands up in case they continue to fight, or if a friend of their's approaches......Most tend to give up once they've lost a limb.
  9. to mimic what RedJ said, yes those forms should be similar to what you learned in the Parker system. My style of Kempo is a cross somewhere between Shaolin and Parker I believe. I just had a new student sign up with my dojo who had trained in Shaolin, and the similarities were ridiculously apparent. Just a few differences in what belts they learned things, and subtleties in block and striking positions. I'm sure you'll have an easy time picking up where you left off
  10. well, My school was originally under Grandmaster Cerio...but upon his passing we have since sought out Adriano Emperado. thanks for the read LuckyBoxer, very informative.
  11. I am a 1st degree black belt instructor in Kempo Martial arts btw...nice to meet everyone here.
  12. Ha! My Master trained under Cerio. I am in the White Tiger system of Kempo in NY, under Master Rich Fescina. But there seems to be some misunderstanding on the previous post there.. Chow I believe originated what most of us call "Kempo" in Hawaii with Mitose, and trained the likes of Ed Parker, Emperado, and the like. They in turn trained Cerio, Villari and a few others, who came back to the US to open their own schools. That's at least the way I learned it
