  1. Can someone give me tips on the jumping side kick? I can do it, but it looks really sloppy. When I do it, my back leg doesn't tuck all the way and my arms kind of flail out.
  2. I have seen all of these cool looking uniforms with colors like green and purple at demonstrations but all I can find are blue, red, white, and black uniforms. Could any of you tell me a website where I could find some of these unique uniforms?
  3. Hey guys, I'm 15 years old and I am going to be testing for my 2nd degree brown belt in a month or two but I was hoping to double test and get my 1st degree brown belt. For those of you who are instructors, do you have a problem with younger students double testing? What do you look for most on katas? Form, low stances, power, or all of these. Thanks
  4. I really think you've got a great idea. Kids my age are interested in martial arts and if you can get a few kids to start classes regularly, they would probably start coming on Sunday mornings. As far as a demo goes, what I enjoy watching is when two people choreograph a fairly fast kata or form together. So if you don't have many people, then maybe this would work.
  5. Hey guys, I've been working towards the splits lately but I'm not quite there yet. Last night before my karate class, I came very close to doing the splits and when I stood back up my legs hurt. When I tried to do the splits this morning, I went down just a little bit before my legs and groin started to hurt. Is this normal? Do you have any tips on getting closer to doing the splits? Thanks
  6. Well, I looked into the school and here's what I found. I don't have to be a member of the school to take the XMA class. It's a bit pricy though. About 100 bucks a month. I found a good looking DVD on the internet that teaches aerial kicks and I'm thinking about buying it. Tell me what you think.
  7. First of all welcome and if your a big man find an art that uses a big man's strength to his advantage. Have you decided whether you want to take a striking or a grappling art?
  8. Thanks Jeremy, I tried some of the exercises you suggested. I did some sets of the exercises and I could really feel different muscles of my legs starting to get tired so I guess they're working. I've been practicing the tornado kick myself. Have you learned this one yet? I am currently taking kenpo but my school doesn't offer XMA classes but there is a nearby Tae Kwon Doe school that offers XMA classes. I love my kenpo classes but I also want to take XMA. What do you think I should do? Thanks
  9. Do any of you guys teach XMA at your school? If so, what does your curriculem consist of?
  10. Does anyone here do XMA? If so, how much do you have to work your legs for those difficult jumping kicks? Also, what were the first few tricks you learned and could you describe them to me?
  11. Hi. Are any of you guys part of a demo team. What are some of the things that your team does? What is your typical demo team class like?
  12. Does anyone have any Confucious Say jokes? I'll start us off. Confucious Say he who runs in front of car gets tired and he who runs behind car gets exhausted.
  13. Hey guys, I was looking at these "weapon master kits" for sale and I noticed that they had more than one style for the bo. They had Shaolin Staff, Monkey Staff, Drunken staff and just plain bo. What do you think is the best style?
  14. I'm talking about your basic Tai Chi straight sword
  15. What can you guys tell me about the straight sword? Is it difficult to learn? Thanks
  16. Hey guys, I would just like to know what is your most memorable moment from a competition?
  17. What is the most difficult kick you have had to learn in Tae Kwon Do? Could you describe it to me?
  18. What are the distinct differences between karate and kung fu? I mean, are karate and kung fu really that different?
  19. Does anyone know of any kung fu schools in Arkansas? Thanks
  20. Hey guys, Currently, I'm a brown belt in kenpo karate and I'm thinking about taking Tae Kwon Do soon. The reason why is because I'm 15 years old and quiet athletic and would like to learn some of the more advanced jumping kicks that kenpo doesn't cover. What do you think I should do?
  21. Hey guys, My karate class is moving to a new building soon and my sensei will be starting to teach weapons classes. I will probably be taking the bo staff classes. Could one of you guys tell me some of the basic attacks, blocks, and stances of the bo staff? Thanks
