  1. As far as the price goes, I only have to pay for my own food. I believe my instructor is able to bring two people of his choice. Maybe he only has to pay for himself and the two people he chooses to bring get in for free. My instructor is also covering the hotel costs. It's very nice of him. I think the price for the whole seminar is $299. Good thing I only have to pay for food.
  2. I think it is basically going to be a 2 day seminar and no I do not think it is style specific. If you would like to know what topics are going to be covered at the seminar, check https://www.unitedprofessionals.com Maybe this will answer your questions.
  3. Hey, are any of you guys going to the instructor college in Knoxville, TN on April 15th and 16th. I'm probably going to go with my instructor. I think it will be a lot of fun.
  4. Hey guys, Do any of you instructors teach the XMA curriculum at your school?
  5. Hey Harmony, I also have the 2005 century product catalog but their purple and green uniforms are under the custom services. Am I able to buy just one of their custom uniforms and do you know how much they cost? If so please tell me. Thanks
  6. hey guys, does anyone know where I can get a green or purple uniform? or is there any way I could just dye a white gi with it looking good and the dye not coming off? thanks
  7. Have any of you guys heard of this? I think it is going to be a discovery channel series that airs in july where Roland Osbourne hosts. I think it is supposed to talk about styles from different countries such as tae kwon do, aikido, and brazilian jiu-jitsu. If you have any more info could you tell me? thanks

    creative kata

Hey guys, I'm wanting to think of a creative kata and I could use some help. I would like it to be pretty fast with a little bit of flash. Most of my katas are in an "I" shape. Also, could you give me some tips on doing a butterfly twist? I can jump fairly high and I can easily spin in the air, but I need some tips on getting my body parallel to the ground. Thanks
  9. Thanks for the reply Maddwraph, Sorry if I'm bothering you with all these questions, but capoeira seems like such a cool art. Could you give me some tips on doing an au batido? Also, could you tell me some techniques that come from handstands, cart-wheels, or round-offs. I can do these things, so techniques that come from them might be easier for me to learn. thanks
  10. Hey Maddwraph, Thanks for the post. Again, I have another question. How do you play those capoeira games and how do you score in them? Is it like point sparring where you lightly hit your opponent to score? Also, are these the same type of techniques you see in XMA? thanks
  11. Hey Maddwraph, Could you explain to me the differences in the esquivas you named? Also, what is the most difficult thing you have to do in that style whether it's a certain technique or something mental? What is the coolest technique you've learned so far? I'd also like to know some other unique aspects of capoeira. Thanks
  12. I have another question. Do capoeiraists have an official uniform like karate or kung fu. If so, can you give me a link to where I can see a picture of it? thanks
  13. Hey guys, I am probably going to get my black belt soon and when I do I can wear just about any uniform. Do any of you know a website where I can buy a short sleeve gi. I don't really like the long sleeves but I don't want one of those sleeveless gis. So does any one know where I can get a gi with about 1/2 lengh sleeves? thanks
  14. Thanks for the replies so far. I have another question though. I think the first video (in a series of Capoeira videos I saw) covers things called "ginga" and "esquivas". Could you tell me what these things are? Thanks
  15. Besides the history, what can you tell me about capoeira? I don't think there are any capoeira schools near me so I may buy some instructional videos. Do you think it's a solid style or mainly for fun and show. And if I do learn some of those more advanced techniques from videos, do you think they could be incorporated into sparring (and I do mean sparring, not a real street fight)? Thanks
  16. I'm just wondering what are your reasons for doing martial arts? I just do them for fun. I'm a 15 year old Christian boy and I don't fight. I just think the martial arts are fun. The ability to defend myself if needed is just an added bonus. Also, how old were you when you started?

    trademark technique

he's just talking about becoming skillful with a technique that I can use consistently when needed. at least I think that's what he meant and I see that you do kenpo. can you tell me some of the things I may start learning when I reach black belt? right now, I'm a 2nd degree brown belt. also, is there a certain amount of time you have to wait before you go up a degree of black belt, or is it just based on skill level? thanks
  18. hey guys, my instructor has told me that my need to find my trademark technique for sparring, a technique that I can use effectively, and is special to me. Do any of you guys have a trademark technique. What is it and how did you come to use it so much?
  19. If you were to try to create the ultimate art for yourself, what would be in it? I would take the kicks of TKD, the hand strikes of Kenpo, the athleticism and flexibility of Wu Shu, the toughness of Muay Thai, and the grappling of ju juit su (spelling?). That would be a pretty good style.
  20. I know that wu shu has many acrobatic moves but I'm sure there is also a combative aspect. But what I'm wondering is it like karate and TKD where you have freestyle sparring? It would be pretty cool to see those techniques used against someone in sparring. I would like to learn wu shu but there are no schools in my area.
  21. I'm not really sure why but the art I practice, kenpo, is characterized by fast hand strike combos and yet if you watch me spar, you'll see that I kick way more than I punch. My instructor doesn't spend too much time teaching me different types of kicks, but many times I find myself practicing jumping kicks and other types of kicks. My teacher sort of has a rivalry with a Tae Kwon Do school here in town. Have you ever practiced a style that focuses on one thing while you practice something else much more. Am I an accidental Tae Kwon Do stylist?
  22. Besides the history, what can you guys tell me about Monkey Kung Fu For example, what are some of the basic techniques? What are some of the advanced techniques? Do you consider it more combative or something fun to watch? Does it have many aerial techniques? Thanks
  23. does it really matter how high you jump on the jump side kick? because I can jump pretty high but I'm still having trouble with the jump side kick. I can do it fine on a target of heavy bag but I have trouble doing it in the air not striking anything. Could you give me some tips on doing the jump side kick and what are the very best exercises to increase jumping ability?
  24. What you have to do is get inside his head at the very beginning of the match. Don't attack. Wait for him to make the first move. You say he disregards foot and leg techniques in class so you know he won't kick you, so wait for the punch. As soon as you see that arm begin to extend, to launch a good side kick to his stomach or armpit where that arm came from. My instructors have done this to me when I was more of a beginner, and believe me it will make this guy second guess himself before he attacks. So at the beginning of the match, just counter. Then begin to move in when you become more comfortable.
  25. Hey guys, has anyone here been to Camp Chat? I would really like to go and learn all the cool stuff and compete in the US Open but I want to know if it's worth the money? And when is Camp Chat 05?
