Wrestling Tips, Anyone?
youremean replied to youremean's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
eat less than 1000 caloris a day? I eat like 4000 calories a day and i dont gain any weight. Is that ok? -
I agree. One of my Muay Thai insturctors was at a 7-11 once and these punks came in and started messin with him. Then one of them threw a cross at him, and he up-kneed his head (pulled the cross down with both hands while kneeing upwards at the same time). He knocked the guy out. You can't say for an absolute anything regarding street fights.

This seems to work a lot of times when your opponent is trying to kick you. Just keep your distance. Keep backing up and circling to your right and you will find lots of opportunities to counter the kicks after he misses you (cut kicks, etc).

How effective are elbows (such as those in MT) in street fights? Especially the spinning back elbow, would it work in real life?

Thanks for the replies. -
http://navyseal.s5.com/workouts.html It's a good workout for physical fitness, not bodybuilding, if that's what youre looking for.

how do you bring down someone bigger than yourself?

Carry around a taser or pepper spray, but you can't do that in school. -
I don't think he's bragging. His tips seem useful.

MT or boxing
youremean replied to Hairydog's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Sevenstar, what do you mean by mentality and circumstance? By mentality do you mean he's more aggressive or more violent or something? And are you saying that a person with no technique or experience can win a streetfight against a MA by simply being more aggressive? You probably arn't, and I misunderstood, so could you clarify? "I've seen several MA get torn apart by non-trained guys who simply had an "I'll maul you at any cost" attitude." ---In a fight, that kind of over-zealous attitude will make you prone to mistakes that will get you KO'ed, I think, especially if you don't have any technique or experience. My instructors always say to fight smart and not just go in swinging your fists like crazy. And by the way, I know you never said that the streetfighter had lots of experience, but some other people were saying it and I thought it was assumed. -
Great ideas, guys. So far, we have keeping your distance, getting a better angle so you can counter his bearhug, kicking his leg, grabbing his leg, and punching him and more. Thanks. I don't know a lot about grappling, so I can't really give my opinion on these until I've tried them (which I will asap ) And I find that dropping my weight does help a lot because he can't get a lot of leverage that way. To answer your question, Shorin Ryuu, he bearhugs me in the front and under my arms, but I'm sure if he got the chance, he would get behind me or over my arms. It's kind of hard though, because my hands are always up, and I always try to keep him in front of me. Sevenstar, sorry I don't train with Mr. Miller.

MT or boxing

It's unfair to compare a streetfighter with lots of real fight experience to a martial artist who has had no actual fights. If the martial artist had the same amount of streetfight experience as the untrained, but also experienced streetfighter, don't you agree the MA would win? -
MT or boxing
youremean replied to Hairydog's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Yeah, he's right. Boxers do get more experience with punches and taking punches, so I guess it's really your personal preference whether you should take MT or boxing. I just said MT because that's what I do , no offense! -
Anybody know any drills to improve your reflexes?
youremean replied to youremean's topic in Health and Fitness
Thanks. The video looks good, but with shipping, it would cost over 50 dollars. Does anybody have any other suggestions? -
kbgirl, are you allowed to kick full power to the head in your tournaments? Have there ever been wins by KO? The answer to both questions would be no for me, and I'm not sure if you can kick hard to the thighs or if you have to kick lightly. I guess a lot of people don't really want to get hurt or get too much pain but still want to fight, so this kind of fight is good for them. Thanks for posting!

I know sparring is good practice for your reflexes, but I don't always have a partner around, so does anybody know any drills that can help you respond to a punch and especially a kick faster? BTW It would be helpful if I could do these drills on a standing bag or shadow boxing because that is all I have at my house. Thanks

Yeah, he probably should've found out the rules before he tried out. -
I don't know about other MAs but I've seen a lot of Muay Thai stuff and most schools keep the "internal" stuff to a practical minimum (like relax, breathe, respect...). (But if you go to Thailand they do do some Buddhist ritual before fights)

Thanks for all the help. I'm finally getting a feel for this. We don't set up the swinging heavy bag a lot so I guess I'll just have to use the standing one. -
