  1. The first punch is 50% of the fight (if landed). It hurts the opponent physically and kills him mentally.
  2. Royce Gracie was the ultimate in his day. Undefeated in the Octagon. I heard somwhere his brothers were better than him but he had the balls to step up into the UFC.
  3. There is kicking just from the waist down. Kneeing is more their our style. What Krav Maga does is take out all the * and gives the student an instictive way to fight meaning if someone were to say grab my throat, I have done a specific move to counter that so many times it becomes instictive. KM also goes into the psyhchology of a fight and the state of mind you need to be in. Put it this way KM is about ending the fight as quick as possible. One thing, if your hood is that bad......get a gun. A Ranger told me one time " I dont care who you are, I have a .45 with 7 bullets that says your not going to get within 3 feet of me, and if you do you aint gunna be in any shape to fight me".
  4. Yeah, I live around JAX. I did the split option program with the national guard and Im in an sf unit only not sf qualified. once my MOS is completeed next summer Ranger school becomes an option for me. Thanks again Trock
  5. Whos is your favorite UFC fighter? And whats your favorite fights? I'd have to say Royce Gracie, he's the best an I wish he'd come back to show people like Tito Ortiz how things are done. One of my favorite fights or should I say funniest was the boxer who took on Gracie and had a freaking boxing glove on his left hand and was trying to punch Gracie and with Gracie shot in, as soon as the boxer hit the ground the corner flag was thrown in. His whole strategy was to try to punch out gracie and if that didnt work and he got on the ground for his corner to stop the fight before he got hurt. Very comical
  6. Ive been taking Krav Maga for a while now and Im on my HS wrestling team and I want to broden my horizons a bit and take up another MA. But the thing is where I live the martial arts dojos are limted to Tae Kwon Do, Vovinam, and Tang Soo Do. I took up Krav Maga simply for self defense ( Im in the Army, SF Unit, and want to learn it to stay alive, and no Im not SF qualified even though Im Airborne and headed to Ranger school ). From what I know the Tae Kwon Do place is called Karate America and is ATA. It looks like its a McDojo The Tang Soo Do place is called Paks Karate. And there is a Vietnamese martial arts place called Vovinam ( I think thats the martial arts name too) Im just curious what would be the best selection for learning more self defense. From the many posts Ive read it seems Karate/TKD/TSD/etc arent effective in real combat and are more for sport now a days. And can anyone please give me an analysis on Vovinam I know very little of it. Thanks
  7. If your in it for self defense then try "practical" MA's Krav Maga, Defendo, as Ive heard JKD. At these places you learn the mental as well as physical aspects of street fights. And they teach you quick so you well remember everything you learned. Ive heard of many Black Belts getting beaten by ordinary thugs. Krav Maga doesnt do any katas or forms. Each day our instructor attacks us and sees how we react in certain situations. Another thing Krav Maga does is teach you are not super man and to fight smart and only when needed. Many of my black belt friends are really cocky and Ive seen at least one of them get into a fight he couldnt win because of it. On the other side Karate, TKD, etc is more sporting, and envolves more katas and things like that.
  8. I think MOST Karate Instructors fail to teach students REAL life fighting. I know I have a friend who is a black belt who bragged a lot and told me Krav Maga was new and inferior. He sung a diffrent tune when I was him get beat by an average guy. Most Karate doesnt get into the phycological aspect of fighting nor automatic reactions and is more a sport than a defense system. Just my opinion but what do you guys think...... Watch systems like KM, defendo, and American H2H become very popular.
