  1. Sorry but I think you need to reword the poll. Would you like more OR less, with an answer of yes or no... is that yes you want more, or yes you want less... and vice versa.
  2. I'd leave alone. Unfortunately it's not unusual for some instructors to bad-mouth others just to drum up more business... the reason for this is that in any town you can look around and find more martial arts schools than fast food outlets... but more people like fast food There's no need to start a 'war', just realise him for the idiot that he is and let your son carry on enjoying what he's doing JMHO
  3. I was always put of wheelbarrow races after, in primary school, someone's arms collapsed and they went face first into the tarmac... OOH the blood.... so much blood!
  4. Do something for the community while promoting your club. Organise something like a sponsored event and then go to the town green to do it. Leave buckets around for donations to the charity of your choice... leave leaflets about your dojo around too.... Get some of the students to hand them out after. Get the newspaper to cover the event, and especially the bit where you hand over the cheque to the charity. MAs can get bad names so something like this is brilliant for showing that it's a nice, wholesome thing to get into. Volunteer for school fetes. Not only will the watching kids be interested, I bet so will a lot of the adults. Do demonstrations where women, men and children are involved to show that MAs are for everyone. If there are any fun runs drum up a group of students to get involved and run in their uniforms. Give them a few leaflets to hand out on the way.... again get the paper involved... lots of free advertising Get into the community and the community will be interested in you.
  5. Do you have to pass through every belt to get to black? Do you have to pay for grading? If so, how much does it set you back? What sort of time scale are you looking at to get to black belt? What sort of difference are you looking at with a 3D Kyu as compared to a 3C Kyu... surely the differences are very minor? Sorry about all the questions... just curious. My school's system is: White Orange Red Yellow Green Purple Purple/White Brown Brown/White Brown/2 White Black - up to 10th Dan
  6. From the sounds of things we are going to get some manufacturer such as Oil of Olay trying to bottle whatever is released in Martial Arts to keep us all so youthful and wrinkle free!
  7. I'm both. A dedicated student, still very much learning, but also recently started as an assistant Instructor for the children and teenagers.... very much in training with that as well.
  8. OOH that reminds me... I actually have an updated page to go on there. And I will try and get it into an easier to read table. Keep an eye out BritNoob, it'll be updated over the next couple of days
  9. How important is lineage anyway? What's important when teaching kids martial arts? An up to date trained first aider. An Instructor who is police checked. A friendly atmosphere. Safe exercises that won't damage their developing joints. Other kids for them to train with. Sit in on the lessons and decide whether you are happy with the instruction. Not just with the MA part of it but the whole lot, the people there, the instruction given, is the place clean, hygienic etc etc Someone will always be telling you that their MA is bigger, better, more traditional... most of the time it is *... only you will know whether it is the right one for you, or the right one for your child!
  10. I don't think there's a Dave Owen at our Club, there's a few clubs in Torbay though... for such a small place!
  11. Hi I'm 24. Last weekend I got IDed to get into a Wetherspoons. I never EVER got IDed until I was over 18!
  12. My new website is below. There's a lot in the pipeline at the moment, I have loads of ideas for new stuff to put up on there. But would also be interested in hearing what other people want to see in it. I'm pretty excited about it... I think (hope) it's gonna be big!
  13. Hi My name is Angela. I am new to Karate Forums but I am a seasoned poster on some other forums... I see that some of the old favourites from them have already made their way here. I study Shotokan Karate in the small town of Paignton in Devon, England.
