White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Try blackbelt magazine. It focuses on all arts, but its got the greatest articles.
  2. I'm currently in TKD but I plan on getting into a full-contact art eventually. I've decided either MT or boxing. I'm sure MT would be an easier transition cause I'd get to keep my kicks, but I prefer to use my hands. Also, though I prefer to use my hands, I just feel more comfortable moving in with a kick, then landing close in for some hands. I see this as a weakness that I'd like to phase out, so I'm leaning towards boxing. I'm 5'5", 135 lb.s, and a red belt, testing for my black stripe in a week, and I'd like to know which style you all think would be best for me. For the record I do know to look for a credible instructor and to view a class or to before I join to decide if they suite my needs.
  3. I just keep going cause I refuse to stop, to be defeated by my own body. Also, I tell myself, I've taken pain like this before, I can take it again.
  4. Well, I eat lots of protien cause I'm working out and trying to muscle-up. I usually just stuff my face with healthy stuff, cause with my fast metabolism i cant keep body fat, and after fat is gone your body eats up muscles for energy.
  5. Well, I've met a few boxers in my time, and watched quite a few matches, and as long as you know how to deal with kicks I'd say it's a great fighting method even by itself. In fact, after I earn my black belt, I plan on getting into boxing.
  6. Well I'm in TKD, so this isn't exactly my area. It has been my experience though that high kicks and power kicks are hard to properly recover from so you should just be able to duck it or step back and move back in on them before they recover to get a couple good hits in.
  7. Though it can cause damage, I believe it's necessary to ATLEAST alternate between bag gloves and no gloves cause you don't wanna punch a guy in the face, get a booboo, and get your butt kicked cause you can't punch anymore cause of the pain. I'm not dissing them, and their importance is obvious, but you have to able to punch something without whining about it. Don't say it doesn't happen i've seen sissies do it.
  8. Which division would a 130 lb. guy be in?
  9. Some bruising and swelling on my right shin and for a feet days it hurt when i breathed. Oh well, makes me feel alive!
  10. Well, though i hear boxers say you can injure yourself hitting on the bags without gloves, if you just use proper technique you'll only get light bruises at worst. That's all i get on any heavy bag i've ever used.
  11. I've been looking into boxing, and i've got a nagging question. What are the weight brackets in boxing?
