JKD school differences
The JKD Kid replied to bludhall's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Doesn't Sound like JKD to me, "Belts are only good to hold your pants up" in JKD, the CONCEPTS are closest weapon to nearest target. simply to simplify, daily taking away whats not needed. And not to teligraph. It doesn't sound like JKD what there doing.... I dont' know., I'd like to know why he's put belts and side stances, and karate style kicking in there... -
I've triend with 3 Bruce Lee students, I just trained with Richard B. Last weekend (the 20th and 21st) And He was good. You've got to understand though, Each Bruce Lee student got somthing diferant out of Bruce, Richard I think got more of the Boxing stuff. I'd say he'd be a good teacher. He's very good. But try training with a some other Bruce Lee students too. Don't lemit yourself

Hey, I'm not a very limber guy, and I'm trying to get a higher kick, and more flexablity. In my art, we don't kick high any way, but I want to beable to if I want to. I've been trying for like a year now. And I'm still not as flexable as to do a hook kick to the head. Any one got any tips?? Any stretching exercises? any thing??? HELP?! PS. I'm not fat, i'm skinny, and tall, so I should beable to be flexable right?

Jeet Kune Do
The JKD Kid replied to Iron Arahat's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well, read what Hawkins Cheung has to say about JKD, and Wing Chun. I think it'll clear some things up. http://www.Hawkinscheung.com Hawkins was a friend, and fellow training partner at the Hong Kong Wing Chun school. He's got alot of interesting things to say about JKD, and Wing Chun. Personaly I think simply, JKD is the way to get to Wing Chun. Wing Chun has the rest of the answers. -
I would say start in Wing Chun, for sure!! I personaly take Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, but i'd say 80% of our training is Wing Chun. The way I feel is, JKD is the way to get into Wing Chun. Its how we can get close enough to get to use our Wing CHun. I personaly think Wing Chun is A MUST! You CAN NOT have JKD with out Wing Chun! So go for Wing Chun.

Mook Jong / Wooden Dummy
The JKD Kid replied to YODA's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Hey Yoda, I only do the Dummy set that my teacher showed me, I believe its the Gung FU set your talking about, In my school, we train in all aspects of what Bruce did, every thing from Hong Kong, to La/China town. So we do Wing Chun, and JKD. But is there a book on the dummy sets?? -
IDEAL KUNG FU STYLE
The JKD Kid replied to MAVERICK's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I would say take Wing Chun, Or Wing Tsun (Emmin Boztepe, and Leung Ting use this style of Wing Chun) It's very effective for the streets, It's very in your face, and it can also be very much of an internal style. I take Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, but I also do Wing Chun , because that was Bruce Lee's mother art, and alot of structure comes from Wing Chun, all in all , its a great art. My vote is to take Wing Chun. -
Mook Jong / Wooden Dummy
The JKD Kid replied to YODA's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Yeah, I use wooden dummys. I use it in moderation, So as to not get to stuck, or sticky. But I use it to train mostly trapping, and to really drill it in my mind to attack center line. And you can use it , in a boxer type way, learning to hit around arms, and doing it fast. And it makes you a more effective, tighter fighter. ( generaly speaking) -
Is it actual JKD?
The JKD Kid replied to The JKD Kid's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Yoda, I do like what you have to say about having Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do as your foundation, and your core. And I'm glad to see that the Concepts people understand that. And it's true you should not be bound by any set law or form. But in order to get to the formlessness you must have the good core. To get to formlessness you must first have form, then to brake away from it. I'm all for cross training, my thing is, just call it as it is. Don't put all these other arts into JKD, and then call it JKD. But I really liked what you had to say Yoda, thanks for posting. -
Is it actual JKD?
The JKD Kid replied to The JKD Kid's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well Joecooke, JKD is what Bruce taught himself, he did have alot of theory in it, and alot of leasons about emotions and finding your way. Finding what works for you, and throwing out all the other stuff. Oh and Slider, I really like what you had to say man. I didn't know Dan Inasonto thought of the 2 as diferant things. I'm very impressed about what you had to say man. Iron Arahat - I really liked what you had to say, some good thoughts. I enjoyed it . THanks for "your 10 cents" =) -
Here's a question I wanted to throw out there. People call Jeet Kune Do Concepts , actual JKD. And people call it "Bruce Lee's style!" Now concepts are idea's , and theorys. Alot of Jeet Kune Do Concepts add alot of diferant arts, Muay Thai, Silatand and many other styles. Mostly because of the fact that Bruce Lee said to use "No way as way" and "Using no limatations as limatations." But can you really call it actual Jeet Kune Do the art Bruce himself taught. Actual Jun Fan/Jeet Kune DO?I don't think you can. Because what Bruce taught and what Jeet Kune Do Concepts are teaching are 2 diferant things. I have no problem with people cross training, but can you morally and ethically say its actually Jeet Kune Do, what Bruce Lee taught his students and his friends? I don't think you can..... What do you think?
-
Hey Gorgoth, your right, my system doesn't use belts. Bruce didn't think they were usefull. Like Bruce Said, "Belts are only good to hold your pants up" We train to learn how to fight, and its never ending. PS. Yes I'm in Jun Fan/ Jeet Kune Do. _________________ "Control your emotions, or they will control you" Bruce Lee [ This Message was edited by: The JKD Kid on 2002-01-17 11:36 ]

Hey Slider, yeah man, any time you want to talk about JKD, I'm all about that. I've actually got a friend in my Jeet Kune Do class, that's in Kenpo also, and I always like to talk to him about the diferances and the benafets. Any time you want to talk, i'm up for it.

trapping
The JKD Kid replied to Prodigy-Child's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Trapping, is to shut a person down, while at the same time attacking. "Pak Sao" is a trap, where you throw a punch , or a finger jab, and say it gets blocked by a normal karate block, when this happens your back hand slaps, or pushes very hard down on the persons elbow, driving his arm down, and driving his elbow into the persons ribs, at the same time you punch, and move in checking the persons leg so he can't kick you. Thus he is tied up, and "TRAPPED" and he got hit too. that is just one form of trapping. If you want to learn more look up stuff on Wing Chun, that's where Bruce Lee learned his Trapping from. We do this in Jeet Kune Do. -
Uhhh... We don't have belts in my system... We just learn how to fight. =)

Hi all! I'm Christopher, an 18 year old Jun Fan/ Jeet Kune Do fighter from the middle of the USA, the great state of Missouri. I've been doing Jun Fan/ Jeet Kune Do for a year and a few months now. And I must say, Bruce Lee was the greatest fighter ever! Well peace out all! CK

Need sparring tips!!!
The JKD Kid replied to Kickbutt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I don't know if you've ever herd of Wing Chun? Well they are very good at in fighting. And as a Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do fighter, we train for all range of fighting, and I think if you picked up a few wing chung trapping skills you'd find you wouldn't have as much of a problem with a person getting close to you. Just look into some wing chun in fighting.. I think you might find it interesting. Also forward pressure and redireting some one's energy would probably work well for you, if your using infighting. -
Jeet Kune Do
The JKD Kid replied to thaiboxerken's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
About the "Stright Blast" or chain punching. Its good to use, in the right timing. You can easly destory a person who's just coming at you with a "Stright Blast", there's a parry that you can do that you parry and come underneath with a Groin shot, or you could mearly jam them with Quan Sao. (That's Bong Sao with a Tan Sao) Oh one more thing. I think Dan Inosanto is a good man, and a great fighter. and his princables are good. And he's taken alot of good things and made them work for him.But you've also got to understand he teaches alot of diferant things. But dont' call all of it JKD, maybe JKD concepts - but not JKD. -
I think its interesting that in an all out fight, with no pads, gloves , or head gear, that Wong only had a scratch above his eye, and that the fight lasted 20, to 25 min's acording to Wong. Do you really think an all out fight COULD last 20 mins? I don't think so. I've seen old Bruce Lee footage and that man was amazingly fast. And true Wong could of been really good also. But for him to last 20 mins in a fight with there skill? It just wouldn't of happend. I think we all know Wong probably got beat bad, and he was just ashamed and tryed to make himself look good. There might be some truth to his story, maybe he didn't get beat as badly as Bruce said, but all in all, I'm very sure that Bruce beat him.
