First Class Today.
Goku replied to Goku's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
VERY VERY PAINFUL! I remember when I first went to sign up last night.... he told my dad all about what karate is (my dad isn't the MA type) and then my dad asked "what is ju-jitsu?" and the guy looked at us both and made a little smirk and then said "it's painful....but fun.......but very painful" he said that a lot of people give up because of the pain. There is alot of submissions and such. It's great to know though! -
Well I had my first class today. It was brutal. No one was a beginner like I was and I was getting tossed all over the place and I thought my wrist was going to fall off.....I thought I was going to cry lol. We were doing a lot of stuff that wasn't even for beginners and the sensei said that when we get the regulars back (who weren't there this week) he'll take me aside with the other "starters" and do the basics.....but this week I was doing more advanced stuff. I sorta surprised myself today....I threw this guy who must have been 300 lbs of all muscle over my back. He was bearhugging me and the sensei told him "only go down if he throws you down...don't let him" well be bearhugged me and I followed the instructions that the sensei told me and sure enough this guy went right over my back. It was great. It was painful but I'll be going back next week.

Just advance them really fast. That's a possibility. Just advance them faster than you'd advance others and just keep it between you and the kids you are doing this to. LOL! That should show the parents lol.

It all really depends on what you want to acheive. Do you want just mass? or tone? or toned mass? If it's working for you then I'd say stick to it.......but when you realize it isn't helping anymore..then change it. By the way...how old are you? that also has a lot to do with your training regimim. Well good luck to you on whatever you do.

Sevenstar.....i'm only 15 and it works for me.......I do like 5 to 6 exercises for each body part. Of course I feel it burning that day later on....and even the next day.......but that's how it's supposed to be. I do intense workouts for intense results. It isn't bad.......but I have also been working out for 2 years now......I started at 13 (which was probably too soon) and now i'm at the stage I am now. I guess different workouts work for different people. I can't expect to do that insane workout of 300 reps.....it just wouldn't happen. Certain things work better for certain people.......I just said what works for me.

Exactly what is Jujitsu?
Goku replied to Goku's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Ok thanks. That helped a lot. It may seem dumb that I said I am starting it without even knowing what it is.....but the way I have to pay.....I might as well take it. I have to pay a $38 dollar fee for the gym membership.....then if I want to do the fighting (karate, jujitsu, and kickboxing offered) it's an additional $15. So I'm going to go to all 3. I'm just starting but I figure if I'm going to do all 3 I might as well start off on all 3. Because if I do 1 primarily to begin with then I'll have more of a problem ajusting later on to the others. Well thanks for all of your help. It's greatly appreciated. -
I think in just about anything there is times like that when you feel like a klutz. I know I do from time to time in anything I do........sometimes EVERYTHING I do. But they pass. G money......... Martial arts is basically violence. I know that they teach to avoid it at all costs but it happens from time to time. So naturally when you're getting trained for it you're going to get some hits. I wouldn't care if my sensei hit me.....all it could do it help. They should have that right.

the thing is with the workouts in flex magazine and muscle and fitness is that you need a million supplements and whatever else they use (illegaly) to make them work. Actually 10 reps and 4 sets is a mass gaining no. of reps and sets. You just have to do it with heavy weight. I can't remember the name of the guy with the insane workout.....i'll have to go check the magazines out. For anyone who is looking for an awesome overall fitness book on lifting weights and exercises....get the book "encyclopedia of bodybuilding" by Arnold Schwarzenegger.....I have it.....it's not just for bodybuilders it's actually an overall book on working out.

Ok before I considered the martial arts......I was into bodybuilding. I was good too for a 15 year old. I've read VARIOUS books on it too. Of course bodybuilding is good for both getting size and for toning. Of course any leg exercise is going to build you up if done with the right sets and reps. This one guy only does 1 set but he does like 2 or 300 reps. I recomend if you want to just put on mass to do heavy weight.....about 10 reps and 4 sets.

Here is another way you can try to achieve a full split. A professional wrestler who used to be into martial arts and kickboxing and other fighting. He was the same way as you when it came to acheiving a split. So he got 2 chairs and put one foot on each and that helped him to go down further. He said he'd just do that but hold on to a broomstick or something so he didn't slide down too far, too fast. After a while he got the split. He even made up his own olympic lift. It's called the van dam lift. You do a split inbetween chairs and hold a dumbell. It's quite impressive actually. Maybe that method could help you.

I didn't see this catagory until today and I posted some things yesterday. But oh well. My name is Bryan and I'm 15. I'm starting martial arts again very soon. I like alot of different things in life. I like martial arts, wresting, football, baseball, basketball (here and there), I have a lot of animals and I spend alot of time with them also, I like to just hang out too and watch some tv. I like to watch anime, wrestling, crocodile hunter. I'm into various musics too. I listen to rock, rap, and some jazz here and there. I keep a very open mind about things so I accept many things and I like most of them. I am a pretty easy goin person. That's me.

Ok cool....thanks. Oh yeah last time I started....before I even started I met my instructor........he seemed cool....but then when I went to class....he was just someone that I didn't like too much. He seemed like a stuck up guy who thought he was better then everyone else. Do all instructors act that way? If so then i'll go back to that place.....but if not...then i'll go somewhere else.

I'm not currently in martial arts........but my uncle was into it big....he owned his own school for it and sponsers would send him over to japan and stuff to compete. He was great. He is no longer in it but he told me once of when he was in a bar. He walked in and 5 guys started with him. They were all big biker guys too. All about 6'5" and like 250lbs. Ya know.....the big guys. Well 2 of them had knives and they all went after him. Well he wasn't going to just take it so he beat every one of them. Of course he wasn't really in the best of shape either but he put the other 5 guys in the hospital. He got arrested for it and all that too. But that shows what someone who is good at martial arts can do to a street fighter. He showed them all up. I'd say that if you're dedicated and you give it all you have then of course the martial arts would beat streetfighting anyday.

first of all.....thank you for responding. Really why I want to do it is because I have a really bad temper and I feel that this would help me channel my anger and emotions into something good. Another reason is so if there ever comes the time where i'd have to defend myself and fight then I wouldn't just be swinging and have a chance of seriously hurting the other person. Another reason is because I was thinking of competing..after I get good enough of course though. I'm in shape now so that isn't really a factor of it........i'm not really in martial arts shape though. I'm in more of a bodybuilder/weightlifter shape. But when I start martial arts i'll be back to that shape in like a week or 2. And yes my name is from DBZ. It's a cool show. I used to watch it...now the DBZ sagas are over and they only play reruns....I have some tapes though and I pop one in every once in a while.
