Ronnryu

Shito ryu is a traditional and one of the four major styles in japan. it was founded by Mabuni Kenwa and is a blend of two fo his major influences Shuri te (shorin ryu) and Naha te ( goju ryu). currently working of the fine points of the kata Seipei. as well as trying to understand the bunaki and finer points of the kata kosokun dai and Tomori chinto.

I havent heard of that one being a bo kata. It is the first kata that you start with in Goju ryu.

Im not sure what gekisai kata you are talking about the gekisai kata I know is a empty hand kata I suppose you could do it iwht sai or tonfa. I have an mpeg of tenryu no kun and could email it to you if you want.

not sure I havent seen this show but they may be talking about Taira Shinken he was very famous in the art of Kobudo.

All of Higaonna's video's are great. I ahve ahd the opertunity to go to a few of his clinics and he is jsut awwinspiring. I pratice shito ryou so we do alot fo the same kata.

I have heard this before aswell. I am sure that the channan kata influnced some of the pinan kata but I am also sure that kushanku/kosokun dai. influnced others I have read in some other books (unanate) that the motobu ryu does a kata called channan but that is the only style that I know of that runs it. Also please remember that the heian kata came after the pinan Funikoshi changed them to passify the japanese at the time if youlook at thekata you can see very different philosiphy. just my opinion

Well I dont do Goju ryu but I do pratice the naha style of kata in shito ryu. I would have to say that Shisochin is my favorite Naha style of kata. I like it for its unique spear hand thrusts as well as the explosion of power you feel when running this kata. It is one of the few kata whee there are no closed fist stricks in it very unique. I think that Seiunchin has some of the best stop a person in there tracks bunaki of any kata. It is a very powerfull kata aswell. I dont have a Naha style kata that is giveing me any trouble as of yet however I have not learned the kata kururunfa yet so Im sure I am in for it.
