  1. Viontro In the case of the two schools I've trained in I'd have to agree with that as a general rule. The Wing Tchun class had us doing light sparring with slap blocks, angle arms, and chain punches in the first two weeks. The TKD school made us wait for four months and then we couldn't even touch each other sparring in full gear. This may not be the case for all TKD schools and that could affect the outcome of a match.
  2. I've done TKD since 1996 and it can be very effective in the hands of the right person. I've added Wing Tchun to my arsenal to help where I was weak-up close with my hands. A good WC guy will take a bad TKD guy every time. A good TKD guy will take a bad WC guy every time. To be an effective fighter you need to be prepared to fight in all ranges and that may mean gaining a firm foundation in one style and then adding others. No one traditional style will address every situation.
  3. I have this on video from Wing Lam Enterprises. It's a good video that breaks the form into sections and provides applications. Visit https://www.wle.com and look in the Hung Gar section. I believe it's VHG03. Hope that helps.
  4. I spar without gear with one of my Wing Tchun buddies on regular basis. No serious injuries to date but I would recommend keeping this type of sparring between friends who know they can trust each other not to lose it when someone takes a lump. Might be a good idea to have a third party to referee if you feel like tempers could flare between you and your partner.
  5. I study a style of Wing Chun spelled Wing Tchun. It is marketed under the name Autodefence and was founded by Master Nick Smart who trained under Leung Ting in Wing Tsun. We do study ground fighting and anti-grappling. We have experienced no trouble in medium to hard contact sparring with protective gear.
