Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. I don't know much about aikido or judo, but I think goju ryu is an very effective martial art. I think of aikido and judo as softer arts and not as aggresive as goju ryu - but like said before, it depends on who you are. In wing chun we say: "To be kind against your attacker, is to be cruel against yourself", goju ryu is also like that. Shotokan is more a wide-stance "hit and run" sport and have a "one hit, one kill"-philosophy. Goju ryu doesn't count on that and continues attacking vital points or grappling until the opponent can't move. Goju ryu is very all-round, it contains grappling, throwing and groundwork like judo and aikido. Goju ryu also emphasizes breathing, training equipment (hojo undo) and sanchin kata, which separates it even more from the modern sportskarate. So, out of those arts I would go for Goju ryu..

  3. Where I train wing chun we don't wear belts or certain uniforms either, and currently we are only about 6 practitioners, where only half of us come every time. In wing chun I don't think your level depends on how many forms and stuff you have learned, but how your wing chun works. Maybe you have only learned the "little idea form", but still your wing chun can be better than the wing chun of "some of those guys, who are learning some of the "higher-level"-forms and have almost forgotten the first form, just thinking about getting a new belt."
  4. Here is my list: 1 x Homemade wooden katana (made with victorinox pocket knife ) 1 x Katana 1 x Machete 3 x Nunchaku (1 bought, 2 homemade) 1 x Knuckle Duster 1 x Butterflyknife (pocket size, not wing chun swords) 40-50 x knives (collectin em) 1 x Maglite 6D Cell 1 x Table-leg MY BODY!
  5. Well, I haven't been instructed in using the nunchaku, but started practicing after I bought a wooden one in Italy some years ago. All I can say is, that I guess you learn alot quicker with a hard wooden one, than if you were using a toy, like a foam nunchaku. You really learn NOT to hit yourself, when using a wooden/steel nunchaku, and I think it's alot more fun, than a foam one, because of the hard surface!
  6. Ip Chun? He is the eldest of Ip Man's two sons sons. Ip Chun's father, Ip Man, is the man who brought wing chun out to the public. He is the source of nearly all wing chun trained today. Many claim to be "closed-door students" of Ip Man, but I think, like many others, that Ip Man would rather teach his sons, Ip Chun and Ip Ching, this deadly weapon, wing chun. You can read about Ip Chun here: http://wingchun.dk/masters/ipchun.aspx
  7. Got a camera? I think I understand, but doesn´t this leave your lower body very open, and isn´t it difficult to use effectively it in real combat?
  8. I don´t think you can download/view them legally, if they aren´t on their website...
  9. Ok, but then maybe you should  Maybe your old thread was deleted, to prevent stupid newbies like me from posting in it?
  10. What? Did I do something wrong? May i not post in this thred? - Sorry! I saw italian_guy´s post, but I could not find a similar thred in "Karate", when there was no link and none had agreed with him I thought it was ok to post here Should I post my previous post in the new thred also, or can I move my post to the new thred and where is it? Sorry if I did something wrong
  11. Where? I guess your from the catching the Bo school of thought.. Well... That is the only kata I know with Bo in it (I have only trained shotokan). I think you grab the opponents bo and attack him in a "pushing" movement, I can´t really remember. What do you mean by "the catching the Bo school of thought"?... What do you think the moves are made for? because Gichin Funakoshi thought it looked funny? Those Bo moves wouldn´t have been there if there wasn´t a Bo, right? Tell me if I understood something wrong - I am not that good at English
  12. Looks like it was on Eurosport some time ago: "8th World Tournament on Eurosport December 1st, 2003 Time: From 19:45 until 21:15 (European time)" http://daobg.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1163
  13. I don´t smoke or drink and VERY rarely eat pills (only when it is absolutely necessary)
  14. Hmmm... I guess I have trained 10 years more of wing chun and shotokan or maybe switched out shotokan with a another style, like JKD or something - if I´ve got time for training 2 styles at once In 10 years I´ve probably been involved in many streetfights
