Hi, I was wondering if anyone has made a transition from point karate to knockdown? I am currently a 3rd kyu and have pretty much done point sparring with the exception of a few sessions doing knockdown. I am really intrested in the knockdown side of sparring and was wondring if I would have to dramatically change the way i spar? Any ideas would be welcome!

We have this method thats usually done after there's been a grading. We usually fold the belt up into 4 so that it's about a foot in length and then have a partner hold the belt at either in vertically. We then pratice mae geri, using the belt to "drive" through to the oponents stomach. We also then pratic maewashi geri, with your toes pointed up (like mae geri) to the side of the belt! The 2nd is done as slowly as possible

Yup, I agree with Bretty101. I got the Red Nationman one's and they have been fine. They are nice and compact around the foot and seem quite strong to so they won't start to fray for a while!

In our club it is 3 months (or 20 lessons) from white, orange, red, yellow, green, purple, purple with a white stripe, then its 6 months from brown to brown with 1 white stripe, then 6 months from brown 1 white stripe to brown 2 white stripes, then a year from there to black !

I've got a red/blue competition belts which have got my name/style/club on them in gold, hopefully when I get my black belt I'm gonna have name on one end in english and style on the other end in kanji both which shall be in silver! We don't really have any restrictions on our belts, just that they hold your trousers up !
