  1. Do you need to distinguish between them ? Well I am rather looking for Kickboxing.
  2. Hello, it appears that some of you may give me some advice on how to arrange a training schedule to attain a better physical potential. At the moment I am doing Karate - Do twice a week, which -in my eyes- isn't really demanding. What would you recommend to do in order to improve strength, power, and endurance ? How would you combine weight training, running and Ma training ?
  3. What does American Kenpo consist of ? What are the main elements of this MA ? What is the difference in between Kempo and American Kenpo ?
  4. In my area there is a whole lot of different clubs offering many different MAs. Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Kung fu, Karate, Jukate, TKD, JKD, Wing Chun. @karatekid1975 why should I choose a soft style ? What do you mean ? Does anyone of you know Jukate ? What is it like ? @delta1 Actually I have heard about an International American Kenpo school around the area. What is special about Kenpo if compared to other MAs ?
  5. Hello, actually this is one of these threads that exist at great number, but I would appreciate if you could give me some advice. I am interested in MA, but I have made some disappointing experiences. I once started Karate and Jiu Jitsu but both appeared to be too static and the movements were too rigid. I am looking for a MA that consists of fitness (to increas strength, endurance and body-control) combined with effectiveness. I am not averse to any traditional MA but I would prefer an art that concentrates on fitness and effectiveness. Furthermore I am not that interested in Kickboxing as my local club seems not to favour getting rich over a good class-atmosphere.
  6. In general, how can you determine whether a school is good ? I'd like to attend classes that are taught by a competent teacher. Is there anything that indicates whether a school is respectable and serious ?
  7. Hello, it appears that some of you may give me some advice on how to arrange a training schedule to attain good physical potential. The opinions mentioned on this thread are diverse; what is necessary for a beginner ?
  8. Hello, I would like to join in the conversation and ask some questions myself. I as well am looking for a martial art that demands great effort from your body while practising. I also would like to know which martial art contains basic moves that may be applied not just in the dojo but also in a real fight. I have been practising Karate and Jiu Jitsu and I gained an insightful impression of how realistic these moves are. Mostly it is getting too complicated to learn the moves in a way that it doesn't hamper their effectiveness. To get to an end, apart from the athletic aspect, I would like to know which martial art combines fitness (increase in strength, endurance,...) and effectiveness ?
  9. Thanks for the insightful explanation. I guess I got the gist of it. I will try to convert the technique into a useful defence punch, just as you said. Thanks a lot.
  10. @cross Well what do you mean by modified ? How do I need to modify the technique ?
  11. Thanks, it does help to the extent that I know that I will need to learn a few more techniques. I guess that is the reason why I was so confused on the topic sparring.
  12. How do I have to construe " I've been a defender of it in the past "? Do you practise another MA by now ? Which MA would you consider worthwhile studying with regard to self - defense ?
  13. How do you actually spar when you are doing Karate - Do ? As far as I know there is only one technique which is called Choku Tsuki. In my opinion this technique is kinda rigid so I don't really know how to practise sparring ? Could anyone help me ?

    Books

Thank you, it appears that the book is quite informative. I probably should get the book to make up my own mind whether it works for me or not. Thanks for the information.
  15. Could anyone explain to me what makes up the difference in between Shotokan Karate and Karate - Do ?
