  1. Thank you TangSooGuy--- I know what you mean by balance. For the first 4 years of my training, I trained 5-6 times a week, sometimes double sessions. I am a little burned out now..... But I still love it and I love to teach. I am just worried that if I scale back on my training (3-4 times a week), my skills will suffer and I won't have as much to offer my students? Am I thinking incorrectly?
  2. Hi--- To anyone who has their own dojo or club..... How do you find time to keep your own training up while balancing your dojo, family, job?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
  3. Hi, my name is Robin and I am 39 years old. I have been training in Goshin Jutsu for 6 years, currently at the rank of certified Shodan. I have a class of my own at a nearby university with about 15 students. I also love horses, exercising, hiking the outdoors. I do computer desktop support for a living. This place seems fun, lots of good discussions and information.
  4. I am female and I like to spar. I always have since I was yellow belt. There are several women who do not like it. It sometimes is a lack of confidence. They have said " I am not sure what to throw ". We start out with 6 foot sparring, no contact at all with the lower belts until they have better control and understanding. We are equals. If they are afraid of sweating or messing up there hair, karate is probably not for them.
  5. Where do people normally meet there mates or dating partners? Usually where they spend the most time whether it be work, school, dojos, etc. I have a daughter who is 18 and she has been dating a guy from the dojo for over a year and a half. They keep it separate. It is working. I know alot of husband/wifes from the dojo. Just because you date a few times does not mean you are getting married. Give it a shot before you both go off to college. Good luck!
  6. I agree with you about the rank, I have definitely seen some great things coming from Blue and Brown Belts. What we do at our dojo, is once you become a certain rank, you apply to become a STORM member (Super Team Of Role Models) and you sign up for a class to assist with. When you first start out, you are a Role Model. Helping to make the class run smoother by assisting a student who may be struggling with a technique; getting up next to a student and doing the technique as best as you can with lotsof energy and enthusiasm to bring them up. After you are comfortable with that you can move into working with smaller sub-groups of the class, then onto doing warm-ups and small 10 minute portions of the class as your teaching skills grow. We also have a 10 week leadership course that we take to graduate us to assistant instructors.
  7. Hi there everyone. I have been training in Goshin Jutsu for about 6 years now and am a certified Shodan rank. I have had my ups and downs, but it is a way of life for me. I am actually thinking of trying another style. Cheers!
