  1. Well after much sifting through emails, feedback and other research, I will abandon what seems to a fruitless effort. As much as I would like to pursue such an endevour, it seems the MA community in general just doesn't seem to be too receptive to the idea. Thaank you all for your feed back, it was much appreciated. On another note, I do like the idea of a reference site, perhaps something that might list the major organizations list of known instructors or something of that nature. With respect, Jeremy
  2. Ok...let me establish that all of this is conceptual right now and I don't have all the answers if you are looking for them. I also am not finding anything being said here as abrasive or argumentive, on the contrary you all are bringing up many valid points that I have been banging my head on. Now Teacher A claims 1, 2, 3, Teacher B claims 3, 4, 5. Teacher B does not like Teacher A. Bottom line, I don't care. I verify Teacher A's claim do check out. He is 1, 2, 3. Teacher B's claims all check out. She is 3, 4, 5. That's it, that is where my org stops. I do not care if Teacher A is a belt factory and Teacher B is hard knocks school. That is a whole different pandora's box to open. Now Teacher C starts own organization, gives own rank and claims 6, 7, 8. We will check up on claims 6, 7, 8. Do they check out? If no, we will not allow Teacher C into organization and we will keep on record the date and time we disproved claims 678. So if a consumer contacts us we will say on December 09, 2003 we found that instructor C claimed 6, 7, 8, but our research showed that he was never 6, or 7 and only partially 8. I hope this helps a bit.
  3. I see the objections that you are stating but I have to start by saying that, we would not be a governing body to anything. We would just a be a quick reference for the consumer to check to see if the instructor's claims are legit. I would hope to work with orgs like KHF, WKSA, KKW in assisting them in weeding out the imposters claiming rank from them. One of the main points of forming such an org would be to prevent any type of government regulation from coming down. As far as people starting their own system, we would simply try and verify their rank in the arts that they took prior to forming their own system. That is the best we could do. At this point I don't have all the answers as this is only a concept that I have been thinking about for a while so any other suggestions or objections are welcomed. Thanks.
  4. For the past couple of months, I have been involved in a situation where a self proclaimed "grandmaster" has been not only selling false dan certificates from KHF and KTA, but has also slandered many good martial artists as well as threaten them. I am glad to say that this man has since been getting busted for many things he has lied about. The sad part is that we have yet been able to bring any criminal charges or lawsuits against him. This situation would make a great case for the government to justify regulation in the MA industry, and it is very obvious that many of us do not want that type of intervention. This whole incident had me thinking about forming an organization that would act similar to the Better Business Beurea. Here is the basic concept: For martial art schools who would be members, we would verify their ranks, organizational ties and claims. That way when a consumer sees our "label" on their advertisement, they would know that the school claims were legitimate and not some fly by night operator. Our job would only be to report facts on a school, not opinoins. So if John's TKD claims to be 5th dan in KKW, then we will verify it. Now if John's TKD is a belt factory that is not our concern as we can not control someone's business. This concept will be a huge undertaking. My good friend and I have already talked about some of the preliminaries just to start this thing and it would be massive. So before we decide to take this further, I am wanting to get some feed back from others if they feel this would help the martial arts industry and as some of you are school owners, I would like to know if you think you would be interested in participating in such a program? Any feedback would be welcome here or PM me at martialscience@hotmail.com. Thanks. With respect, Jeremy
  5. Definetly contact the Tracy's directly for confirmation. They are very good with record keeping and can tell you if the instructor is part of their system. I did a couple searches for the TKD association you mentioned and didn't find anything. It could be his own organization. Good luck in your search.
  6. Are you sure it's Central States TKD Assoc and not just Central TKD Assoc? If it is the later, then it is headed by GM Anderson, one of the original American TKD pioneers. Very nice gentleman. The USA Kenpo Karate may be a Tracy thing.
  7. Interesting. I am a student of both and I must say that it is an interesting concept but pretty much the same thing just Kempo has forms. My teachers are good friends and they always joke Kempo=Japanese Hapkido and Hapkido=Korean Kempo. I say if you have a chance you should study it.
  8. If the only difference you are seeing is the forms then you are either A) You teacher is teaching the WTF forms for organization reasons and training you in traditional TSD and not TKD or B) You need to analys the the systems more. MDK/TKD follows the the same path as all WTF TKD systems. TSD/MDK is totally different in its applications and theories. If we must stay on topic then close the discussion because the question was already answered: American TKD ITF TKD WTF/Kukkiwon TKD Songham TKD
  9. Thought TKD MDK do stem from TSD MDK, they are two seperate branches. There was a break in the MDK during the formation TKD. Many of the younger generation black belts thought it was best to go along with the new founded formation of the Taekwondo, hence the reason why we have Taekwondo, Moo Duk Kwan. However, DJN Hwang Ki, stood by his guns and did not join the new Taekwondo and continued teaching his art as he learned it. This is why you will have Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan aka Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.
  10. Do you know the founder's name or what organization it is under?
  11. Zigy, Yes, if I get over there I will be sure to contact you.
  12. Yes..yes...brilliance is me...ha.ha..ha.ha.ha..If I was so brilliant I would discover the perfect way to make a wonderful living at martial arts without losing the essence of it. I first fell in love with Angela Mao in Enter the Dragon, then I saw her in When Hapkido Strikes aka When Taekwondo Strikes. She is a HKD stylist originally.
  13. Would love to visit Shanghai and other parts of China. I go to Korea every other year with my wife, perhaps one year I will make a stop over in China, to do some exploring.
  14. I started training with him in August doing Kum-Bup and then I started training in Hapkido w/ him also. In these last couple months I've been learning alot. I know he has said occasionally he goes out to Aurora to train. Is miguksaram your last name? Ryan No, miguksaram is Korean for American. My last name is Talbott. Mst. Sims is a great teacher and very knowledgable in his Korean history. You couldn't ask for a better instructor. Once I get some things cleared up on my schedule, I would like to visit his dojang and train with the sword. Jeremy
  15. Well unfortunately I didn't get a chance to see anything but the hotel and the factory. I was only there for 3 days. The people were nice though
  16. And how would you know if you were doing it correctly or not with or without an partner? That is the point. You may be able to grasp a couple of things a punch is a punch a kick is a kick. However, think about some common mistakes a lot of people have such as using the shoulder to produce power, locking up your elbow when punching, dropping your fooot when you kick. These are things that you may not notice while practicing but an instructor would be able to help with.
  17. Yes...I am an expert beginner. What part of China do you live in? I visited Dalian about 10 years ago for business.
  18. Seen it? Heck I bought the dvd...I am also a big Angela Mao fan
  19. That is a very good reading that you mentioned. I have that particular report. It is one of the better reports out there that synch up with Korean History in general.
  20. I have been doing MA for 23 years, 19 of those years in Korean MA and 15 of those are in TKD.
  21. You totally lost me with your post. What do you mean you split off these posts?
  22. Ryan, Are you a student of Mst. Sims? If know him. I am also under the the Hwarang Kumdo. I was under the instruction of GM Park Kyoung-ho until recently. Mst. Sims is a fine man and please tell him that I said hi. With respect, Jeremy
  23. Well, I will not speculate on your instructor. Just simply ask him the type of kumdo that he is teaching and his background. Once I have that information, I can help direct you to what type of extra learning is out there. If he is part of the Korean Kumdo Association, then there are set forms to learn however, there are many splinter groups with their own forms. So who knows. I have not heard of Do-sa Kumdo. I will look for it on the net tonight. Do you have a specifice site for it?
