  1. Chinese martial arts are known for fanciness and practioners of chinese martial arts are known for doing very strong attacks with out much effort. Chinese martial arts are more internal.
  2. Have you guys heard of this deadly move? What style is it originated from? Is it really powerful as some people say, what's it's effect?
  3. -Judo -Wing Chun Kung Fu/JKD -Shotokan Karate -TJJ -Shaolin Kung Fu
  4. thank u for the fast replies and by the way, i'm not a tkd practioner, i was just asking this question because tkd seems to be more of a sport that a self-defence art.
  5. i recommend you take kung fu because there is a lot more kung fu schools in Toronto. I live near you so i know, and if you want to learn wing chun, go to the kennedy recreation centre, i think it's near north york.
  6. I'm quite sure it would help in a street fight, and a boxer's advantage over a karateka/most martial artists is speed and strength, but the martial artist is definitely the more skilled fighter. A lot of martial artists lose fights on the streets because they think by going to a few classes means they're ready for the streets and also a big reason is a martial artist uses all the traditional stances and moves on the streets, which is not right most of the time because for a street fight you should only use the moves your comfortable try to limit traditional stances and moves.
  7. Hey, I'm 14 years old and I'm in my high school wrestling team. I've always had an interest for Martial Arts but I never joined any because I also love soccer, and i did not want judo to interfere with my soccer training because I was wishing to become a soccer player one day. On dec. 12, it was my first tournament ever for a fighting sport, wrestling. It was a novice tournament for the people who have not been on a high school wrestling team. On my first match I lost badly because i didn't know wat i was doing, i was very nervous, and the guy i versed had 3 years of wrestling experience because he's is already in a wrestling team but he still joined the tournament because it's his first year in a high school wrestling team. I only had two weeks of experience because of all the other sports teams in my high school, took some time off the wrestling season, and all the kids in the other high schools had atleast 1 month of experience. I got extremely mad for losing, but the guy's coach said that i was way stronger than the guy but he just had more experience, and my wrestling coach is amazing as he won lots of tournaments and he coached the canadian wrestling team and national team, also said i am very strong and i need more experience. In my second match i was on fire i said to myself if i lose this match then i'll just quit wrestling forever. The guy i versed for my second match was 3 inches taller than me which made me nervous but i said to myself i know i'm strong and i have to win. i was beating him 7-0 then i got very tired as i have no stamina at all even though i play soccer, i never run in the practices. Anyways the guy got catched up to 7-6, i was about to lose but my coach was watching and he said, you can beat him. at the end of my second match i won 10-7. I got really happy for winning. Now for my third match i had to verse i guy with two years of wrestling experience. later on in the tournament, the guy that beat me in my first match told me some tips and we became friends. He told me that the guy i am about to verse is very good at leg locks, so he told me a few tips on how to resist. The match started, and i was confident about winning. He went for a lot of leg moves(don't no the names yet ) but i'm soccer player so i had a lot of leg strength which made me resist most of his moves. i was winning 9-7 but i did three illegal moves which made my score go down, and i lost. I was very mad because i had the match won, but the illegal moves brought my score down. The guy's coach also complimented me for my strength and he said when i learn more techiniques i'll be a very good wrestler. I had one more match but the guy i wass supposed to verse never showed up, so i won automatically. I got a the silver medal, all i did for the whole tournament was a headlock then i trip, ten do a move called a half nelson, that's all i did for my matches, and for some reason when i entered each match, i couldn't rememver all the moves i was taught. I was just happy because all of the coaches that saw my matches were complimenting me for my strength. i'm not fat by the way, i only weigh 130 pounds and i'm 5'7 in height. so i'm average weight and height, and my body is well toned, i'm not really muscelar but my body is well toned, i'm been working out since the begining of the year. I always loved judo, and one of teh girls on the wrestling team is a judoka, and she won all her matches and she said i would do good in judo. My dad also wanted me to join judo because when her was 15 he did judo for two years and he was really good but he quit because he also wanted to stick with soccer, but i guess i'm just doing the same thing my dad did, i want to give judo a try, can I still join or am I too old?the judo dojo that is near me has a good reputaion and the girl on my wrestling team, is in that judo club and her uncle, dad, and grand pa are the sensei's which is really cool. Another funny thing, AND with all respect to other Girl/Women ma's, i never knew some hot girls do martial arts, the girl that is a judoka and is in my wrestling team, she's really hot!!!, i never knew hot girls go for martial arts. sorry i went off topic! anyways, can u guys help me please??? Thank You!
  8. JUDO! or Wretling, but i recommend Judo
  9. hey, i'm just wondering why is tkd more of a sport than a self defense martial art? I think it has a lot of effective kicks that are very good for the streets, but a lot of people say tkd is bad for self-defence and it is more of a sport. Thank You!
  10. BRUCE LEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. my opinion is wrestling and judo are best for grappling, locks, chockes, throws, etc... and Jeet Kune do and Wing Chun for striking. most people think that every move in the martial art is meant for an attack, that is not true!!!, some kicks are for excercise and others are meant for defending. In my opinion it is better for a person that wants to learn how to fight to learn a grappling art because when u fight on the street most people do headlocks, trip, etc... what i'm trying to say is honestly, who needs to be taught how to punch properly, it is rare that when u fight on the street a person does a nice throw or a nice lock, all they would do is punch knee elbow, etc... but they don't know how to do a neat throw. if i think of taking any striking martial arts, i would only want to learn how to kick properly but in my opinion learn a grappling art like Judo, Wrestling, TTJ, etc...
  12. my favourites are: -Bruce Lee (Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do) -Jet Li (Wushu) -Jackie Chan (Mixture Of Different Kung Fu Styles) -Chow Yun Fat (Mixture Of Kung Fu Styles) -Steven Segal (Aikido) -Jean Claud Vandamme (Kick Boxing) -Bolo Yeung (Shotokan Karate)
  13. I don't know wether I sould join aerobic workout classes for my stamnia and flexibilty because I find it kind of wussy for a boy to do aerobic work out. I do a lot of muscle training but my flexibilty and stamnia aren't that great. What do u guys think i should do?
  14. Hi Everybody I am Kakarotto and I am 14 years old. I have a big interest in martial arts. There is a Yang style Tai Chi school near me and a Judo school near me.What do u guys recommend for me to join? Please don't go off topic and choose another art other than yang tai chi or judo.I'm joining judo or tai chi for self-defence and fitness. Please don't say take both just choose one. Thank u!
  15. In Judo there is a form called ATEMI, Which is the striking form in judo. Atemi is dangerous so thats why some schools don't teach it but some schools teach it when u atleast become a black belt.
