High School Wrestling
Judo Warrior replied to dratix's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
last year i was on my high school's wrestling team ( it was my first year, gr.9). I must say from what i saw, most people just go for the double leg take down. There were some a lot of Judokas on thei high school's wrestling team, and i must say they're really good. they won most of their fights by doing throws which stunned their opponents when they got to the ground making it very easy to pin them. It's hard to do Judo throws on wrestlers because first of all they don't wear Gi's and second, the stance. The wrestling stance is really low, so it's kinda hard to do throws. Next year, im going to do a lot of throws, now that i acyually study Judo and im learning a lot of throws, so im going to be way more experienced. Last year I just went for the double leg take downs, but next year, Im going to use JUDO on the wrestlers -
Karate and Kung Fu
Judo Warrior replied to DD's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think Karate and Kung Fu shouldn't be compared becuase there is thousands of Kung Fu and not that much Karate styles( well not as much as kung fu) but i think Kung Fu should be compared to Jiu-Jitsu because there are thousands of different Kung Fu styles and thousands of different Jiu-Jitsu styles, Thus, in my opinion it would be better to try to compare Kung Fu to Jiu-Jitsu. -
best techniques to end a fight
Judo Warrior replied to Ryan gry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think throws are the best way to finish off fights. -
Hey!!! I passed!!!! I walked into the Dojo confident that i was going to pass the test, and i did. I only messed up on a choke, but the throws and the ground work, i did perfectly. I also didn't get a single mistake on the defintions of the throws and ground work or on the questions based on the history of Judo. I'm so HAPPY

Last year was my first year in High School and I joined the wrestling team. From what I saw, 95% of the people just go for the double leg takedown. A lot of Judokas who were on their High School's wrestling team, usually won their fights by doing throws which either made their opponents get really hurt making them not do anything or resist when they got to the ground, so all they had to to is just pin them, or it really hurt their opponents making them not continue the match which is an automatic win. I recommend u either take Wrestling or Judo if u want to have a better chance of being successful during the wrestling season. If u do take Judo just make sure u practice the throws during ur wrestling practice so u know how to use the throws without the Gi or during ur Judo class ask ur sensai what kind of throws are best used for the wrestling stance, since the wrestling stance is so low, its really hard to do some Judo throws. Thats actually a question i'd like to ask my sensai too

The Judo school that i go to doesn't alow striking during Randori ( i dont think any Judo Schools alow striking during Randori) but they do teach the striking when you get your green belt. I will admit that when we do Randori it's not so we can practice for street fights, but its for just practicing our techniques. I do agree that most Judo schools now mostly just focus on the throws or focus on teaching "Sport Judo", but think about it, if one of those throws that are done during competion, or during Randori are done on concrete or on the street, i'm 95% sure it would end a fight unless the person your fighting is extremely tough.

I started Judo for the sport part. I'm hoping to become really good at it and have a good future with it. But at the same time I'm also getting a good work out and I'm learning some self-defence.

I don't like how people say Judo is now mostly a sport rather than a martial art. If someone does one of the throws done in Sport/Olympic Judo on the street, it would definetly end a fight and be VERY effective as it will really harm the person its done to, or even possibly kill him. And a skilled Judoka should be able to know how to use most throws without the gi. I think most black belt Judoka's should be able to use the throws they learned without the gi, and same thing with the ground work. Judo is only taught on a mat so when u get thrown hard u don't get hurt and also break falling (Ukemi) helps reduce the pain, but imagine someone doing an O Goshi (Major Hip Throw) or an Ippon Seionage(One Arm Shoulder Throw) on concrete, that would seriously harm you. Even an Osoto Gari(Major Outer Reaping) can be deadly on the street.

They are both great fighters in Pride Fighting Championships. If u don't know what Pride FC is, It a mixed martial arts organization thats like the UFC, except much better. A lot of the gracies are in it now. Royce Gracie lost to Hidehiko Yoshida last year, and a few months ago they had rematch and it was a draw. ( so good to see a Judoka defeat Royce Gracie, which is supposedly the best BJJ fighter now). Nice answer , Please I want some good answers, or don't bother posting, Thank U. and by the way, Naoya Ogawa and Hidehiko Yoshida were both Olympic Judokas, and they each recieved medals, i think Yoshida got gold Medal in the 1992 olympcis and Ogawa got a silver (they werent in the same weight catagory).

Hey, If Naoya Ogawa and Hidehiko Yoshida fight, who do u think will win? Who do u think is the better Judoka/Fighter? For those who don't know both fighters, They were both Olympic Judokas, and they each recieved medals, i think Yoshida got gold Medal in the 1992 olympcis and Ogawa got a silver (they werent in the same weight catagory). Now both fighters are in Pride FC, for those who dont know what Pride FC is, It's a mixed martial arts fighting organization like UFC except much better. Both Fighters are doing really well, Hidehiko Yoshida beat Royce Gracie last year and they had a rematch in the begining of this year and it ended as a draw. waiting for your opinions

Martial Arts in the public school system.
Judo Warrior replied to manuelito's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In France, kids are taught judo in their schools as a part of their P.E . (No wonder the french are so good at Judo). I think teaching marial arts in high schools could be a good idea. -
Thank You all for your help and advice. I can't wait for my next Judo class...which is tomorrow. I'm looking foreward to learning new throws and ground techniques . The only bad thing is, after June 1st, i'm going to start training with the advanced classes because the sensai cancelled the beginner's classes since not much people go to it. I just don't want to practice with the advanced students because i don't want to mess up infront of them and make myself look stupid .

Thank You all for your advice. I really appreciate your help. So far the only throw I was taught was Ogoshi and for the ground i was taught Kesa Gatame and Kuzure Kesa Gatame, and Yoko Shiho Gatame. I was also taught Ukemi. I have a question, if I become very good at Judo and work really hard, can I go to the olympics someda, or is it too late for me because i started at the age of 14(well, pretty much 15 since im turning fifteen in like a month and a half)?

Today was my first Judo class ever, and my first martial arts class ever because i've never studied martial arts before. Im 14 years old(turning 15 in july 3rd). Judo is great!!!, today i learned how to fall properly so when i get throwed, i wouldn't get hurt as much when i land, i also learned some ground moves and a throw today! I love Judo so much, i never thought that martial arts are that fun. If u have any tips please share with me Thank U
