  1. KSN Doug, You train under Harmon? Thats Awesome! Sa Bum Nym Foster speaks really highly of him, apparently he and Harmon are pretty close.. When Kuk Sa Nym did seminar last year, he came to the Woodlands, and that was cool, I got to spend the majority of my time with Master Harmon. He was drilling us on Forms and the technique behind forms(proper foot positioning, strength in stance etc...)
  2. good point about the stances.. I guess we think about it from the standpoint that if you are strong in a low stance, you should be equally if not stronger in a higher one. I do agree about the knee problems, so, not really sure how you handle that... We were told when coming up that the first 6months or so will tell how your Kuk Sool training will proceed.... Anyway, I do think it builds leg strength. I used to be a gym rat, and did all the squats, leg press etc... I did get results, but all that to say, I see more strength in areas that I could not target unless I used 5 machines. never seen Kuk Sa Sym in a low stance, but I have seen almost all the other masters, down in the "valley of pain" ( I like that term!)... One last note Sa Bum Nym Foster, still uses the "one push-up", he'll even, somehow make it last a minute.... man that burns!
  3. Sa Bum Nym, really drills our stances. That drill you mentioned sounds like a good one. Since I'm on SWAT, I'll make sure to remember that one. And put it to use.. We don't do much grappling, I wish we would though. We do spar really frequently, and I enjoy that. We don't have that many people that like to spar, but our dojang is growing. So maybe in the near future I'll have some more fellow spar'ers Anyone here going on the Korea Trip this year? I would love to go, but my 2 year old may not like that plane ride.
  4. Sup... Kuk Soolers!! Been reading here a long time, but finally decided to post. Down here in the Woodlands Texas, we do about 10-15min warm up, followed by all of your forms. When Sa Bum Nym, is happy he usually has us do Kyo Cho 1time, Cho Geup 2times, Joon Geup 3times, Go Guep 4times, etc... until you reach your last.. so Form night is usually just that forms, and then with time left it's nak bub, or technique. We also get continually drilled on stances, on technique night, we usually do horse stance facing one direction, then turn into a long stance slide forward, then, turn and face the opposite direction in horse stance.. But he has us do all kinds of stance work.. This is such a cool Forum!!! DBN. Danny
  5. in Kuk Sool we are taught to not look at the person you are training with as a sign of respect. I think at the tournaments(which I havent participated in yet) you should look at your opponent. I'll let ya'll know in October when the tournament gets here.[/img]
