ikkyo/standing arm lock
Bdaze replied to aznkarateboi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
im a little confused about your question. are you asking: if you are having a standing lock done to you, should you bend down or stand up and resist. to which my answer would be, bend down. if you resist, it will break your arm. if you bend over you can do any number of things in the way of rolls and counters. howveer, if you're asking if it's good to keep your back straight when preforming an arm lock, then i would say yes, absolutley. in most techniques i can think of it is extremely important that you keep your back straight and your knees bent. this helps you maintain your balance and keep from getting pulled over by the opponent. -
..... wow. i own the ultimate fight DVDs. i had no idea it had stunt fighting as a special feature. thanks for the web sites everyone.

Two freinds of mine (Garret and Dan) are shooting a movie this january. it's not a little kiddy flick that your average highschooler would make. Both of them intend to major in film in college and both of them have had extensive training (one has take 3 courses through my school and the other went to 8 weeks of harvard film camp) basically, theres a somewhat random fight scene between my self and Garett, the director. both of us will be be clad in ninja uniforms. i have already writen up the basic coreography for the fight scene and it should be pretty good, but i was wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing. my main concern is making it look real, but not to overexadurated. the idea is that two highly trained martial artists at the peak of physical perfection are battling for honor, not some staged drunken street brawl. we intend to use light contact but if anyone knows any good moethods for making the fight scene (mainly the striking aspect of it, ive got the grappeling parts down pretty well) or even better, any camera tricks to make it look as though we're fighting faster than we are, it would be much appreciated.

Stupid Black Belt Magazine Adds!!
Bdaze replied to Ironberg's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
man. the one thing that annoysd me most about those adds are their claims that all other martial arts are inferoir because they take time. hoestly. it takes time because the more time you spend on it, the better you will be. you'll be faster stronger and have better endurance and stamina if you use a regulair fighting system then if you order a tape and learn in 2 hours. -
chakra-ki-etc
Bdaze replied to Calcifer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
probably qi-gong right? i mean, it's essentially just working with your energy and getting it to work for you. some of the adepts can create small electric shocks with their energy (i've felt it. i was a skeptic once too) i guess i wouldn't call it so much of a martial art. maybe one of the older shaolin styles or Aikido. i know Aikido uses chi alot. -
Budo Taijitsu. often confused with ninjitsu out of all the styles i've studied, it is my favorite. out of the original 9 schools that amalgamated to form the Bujinkan School (Budo Taijitsu) 3 of them where schools of ninjitsu.

im not sure if this belongs in the Weapons forum. anyway, in the end of the movie "Botherhood of The Wolf" one of the charecters uses a bone sword that has like a chain inside it and when it's swung it stretches out like a whip and then comes back together. i think such a weapon exists, im thinking maybe african or chinese (theres something like it thats chinese, it's like a solid whip) but if anyone knows what this is called or if it exists, im kinda curious.

oh man! thanks a bunch. i think im gonna order the "comtec bandana" vids.

What made you do the Martial Art that you do?
Bdaze replied to Metsubushi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
what made me do my art? well, my answer is most liely going to sound like some fantasy o delussion, but trust me, it happened. okay, i studdied Parker kempo for about 5 years when i was 10 years old. some of it stuck, but not enough to make me feel confident in my self. i always wanted to get back into the martial arts but never found a good dojo nearby. that is until i saw an advert for a local Budo Taijitsu dojo. i toyed around with the idea with a freind of mine. we checked it out. i liked it alot but wasn't sure if i wanted to make the commitment. now, a few weeks later i had a dream. it was one of those recurring ones. im in school or sitting around in a public place and someone walks up and atacks me. then i try to retaliate by punching them and suddenly i can;t lift my arms, or if i can it's not enough to fight back. this dream is always deeply disturbing to me because i have a fear of beeing helpless or defenseless. but this dream was differant., this time the second time the person punched me i managed to get enough nergy to grab his hand and put on a basic wrist lock which brought him to the floor so basically my subconcious knew that i didnt feel confident with a striking art and going the way of a grappeling or softer art would be better suited to my needs. i was sold after my first lesson, this is the art for me. -
Sand: the ultimate cheap trick. throw it in their eyes and procede to pummel them into submisson broken glass/ bottles: use the bottle as a blunt clubbing instrument. broken glass can be wrapped up in a handkercheife and used as a deadly slashing weapon (glass is the sharpest substance known to man) pay phone: in a life or death situation, rip the receiver (cord and all) right off the phone. hold the reciever like a handle and use the cord as a whipping instrument like a sjambok almost (this is an extremely brutal streetfighting wepons known as a "speedo")

reminds me of the non lethal police weapon the :mildly anioying pain ray" which causes the victim to get a slight itch in the polace the ray is aimed. look behind the bar, the bar steward usually keeps a bat/shotgun/knife etc. hidden behind the bar incase they need to break up a fight. very strong alcohol and a candle/lighter. spit it on them then while distracted throw candle at them. it's very dificult to be menacing and intimidating if your hair is on fire. Bar lamps could be very damaging if thrown or swung (if they're the hanging kind) into a persons face. Cork screw. what more is there to say. it's sharp, it's metal, it has good handle with a good grip. those are my suggestions

Suriken ARE designed to bounce off for two reasons 1. a puncture would that has no weapon stuck in it will bleed more and infect easier. 2. if the object bounces off it sort of gave the illusion of magic which made people fear the ninja. if you;re just standing around and all of a sudden you have a huge gash on your forehead and you can;t figure out where it came from, you'll be a bit freaked out. the most importnat thing is getting the shuriken throw fast and accuratley. sticking is almost completely unneccisary. your chances of thrwoing a shuriken at someone and not having it cut them are slim to none

well, i dont know if the stuff in catalogues is legit, but i know multiple ground fighting can be done. the Sensei at my school has done it before. we do a drill where you stand in the center of a circle and several people randomlyy atack you, the idea is to be able to flow from technique to techniqwue qithout thinking about it. a fellow student named Ron (5th) and i (9th) decided to atack him. basically he took us both down simultaniusly, causeing us to land on each other. then he pinned us both using each others bodies (my hands where underneath Ron who was beeing held on top of my by sensei and my wrist was locked by senseis other hand.

Interesting dojo's you have practiced in?

childrens library, after hours. top that -
trust me, if a cop wants probable cause, they'll get probable cause. lets set a hypothetical situation: you're walking along the street with your trusty sword cane. a cops ees you from across the street and thinks "hmm, thats a mighty fine cane. i think ive seen it before...... hmm..... oh thats right! i saw it in this months AtlantA cutlery catalogue (or something like that). hmm, thats an illegal weapon to carry around, but im not possotive if it is infact the cane ive seen before" the cop walks over and asks to search you. now, they can use any number of "probable causes" that WILL hold up in court. these are some actual (not verbatim, my memory's not that good) probable causes that where used in court. "The defendant had a slight bulge in his right pant leg" no weapon was found in the defendants right leg, but a 2 kilo bag of cocaine was found in lining of his jacket. "the defendant was clearley acting suspicious by wearing an overly large parka [in late fall]" said defendant was accused of shop lifting, but instead of stolen goods, the police found documents detailing a bank robbery the defendant was allegedly planning "The defendant was stumbling on and off the side walk in a very drunken manner" said defendant was not infact drunk, but was nailed for possestion of a conceiled fire arm i got these in a book of court humour my grandfather has (he's a lawyer) but as you can see, if a cop feels he needs to search you, the court will almost definetly believe him over you

hmm. interesting idea. however, there are many problems with simply atacking constantly to the face. 1. it tires you out quickly. a person can take probably 3 times as many strikes to the face as they can to say the solar plexis or neck region without colapsing from the pain. 2. not all situations call for that much force. if you lose control and the cops have to come break it up you will almost definetly get slaped with some time in lock up. especially if the cop on the scene thinks it was overkill. 3. continuos punching to the face ony works at two ranges. medium and close range. if the personis two far away you'll either ware yourself out kicking at them or be forced to close the gap. if the enter the extrmemly close or "grappel" range, you're in trouble because you will no longer be able to hit them accuratly or with force. this is not necissarily a bad strategy to use, but it should not be the only one in your repetoire. as soon as you encounter a big fella that can brush your punches off like flies you'l ware yourself out while he plays "rope-a-dope" and then mop the floor with you. i personally prefer to use a boshiken or fudoken to a vital area on the arm when i block (this is known as "destroying the fist" in my style because when the right nerve is hit the hand aautomatically opens as a reflex, causing there punch to fail misearbly)

yes. they also used it's protiges the koyoketsu-shoge (Sickle blade and ring on a long chain) and the manrikikusari (chain of equal power to 10,000 men)

What exactly makes something a martial art?
Bdaze replied to Bdaze's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hah, yeah, for a few mil i'de take him on in the ring too. good point bbut only in the ring, i was saying if a hypothetical mike Tyson ran into me in an alley and decided he wanted to beat the tar out of me. -
this question has bugged me for a while. it all started when my freind and i where talking about martial arts and he said soemthing like "Boxing isn't a martial art, you would never be able to use that in a real fight" obviously this isn't true, i wouldnt wanna get in a fight with Mike Tyson, even if i was a black belt. but besides my freinds ignorance, it did raise an interesting question. what makes something a martial art. so boxing isn't a martial art but Kung fu (not real kung fu, i mean the kind thats more like a dance than a practical fighting system) is considered a martial art? if any sport or system that involves combat of any sort amartial art then does that mean something like football is one because you learn to tackle and take people down?
-
yeah, ive heard that too. several hired/government assassins who still did the jobs "ninja style". but that was around the 1960's. im gonna assume there are exactly seven left (there are always seven in the movies ) and they spend their time wondering from small japanese mountain village to small japanese mountian village settling disputes and defeating evil warlords.

haha, not to mention cause an anomally in space time which would likely end everything in the universe.

not possible. his leg would have to overtake light inorder to avoid causing a shadow. what they mean is, his kick was so fast that the shadow moved to quickly or unpredictable for the person on the recieving end to dodge. assuming they where looking at his shadow
