We use a 8 class rotating schedule. It came to our attention that by just going into class, and then deciding what we are going to work on led to things being left out, and when it came time to do promotions, there was a mad rush to catchup on some things... I am a big advocate of a rotating class schedule now.

At what belt do you feel that students should become involved in assisting in instructing a childrens class?

Keep them coming people... they are all great!

First and for-most, RB, don't be a * . Second, you obviously don't go to tournaments to compete, because it is blatently obvious in every tournament that someone ends up being unfairly judged. Like in all other sports, there is a great deal of politics, and this leads to inconsistant judging. At one point or another, everyone who has competed has been unfairly judged.... so don't be a dumbass, and let Kungfumaster vent!

And I am telling you where I think the name comes from, not who the supplier is.

Thank you to everyone who posted some useful information here. Bob Dalgleish was my Sensei's, Sensei's instructor, which explains why we learn the Kata (we all live in Sudbury). I guess that I will just have to keep looking. Again thanks to everyone who posted useful information.

Yep, they have taken that name from the Century Martial Arts supply company http://www.centuryfitness.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10051&storeId=10051&categoryId=13704&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=13501

We learn Sanchin at 4th Kyu (Orange Belt)
-
It is a kata that I have to learn... so as my sig says, it is a Goju Ryu karate kata. I wasn't asking what style it comes from. I want to know if there is an online video of it.
-
Does anyone know if there is a video online that shows the kata "the way of the wolverine"? Thanks.

My avatar is the official crest of my style. It is the Master Miyagi's fist.

Sorry I need to vent!

You can't use your hands to spar? Without the combination of hands and feet, I wouldn't be able to fight worth crap! -
This is the exact way that I would handle the situation too

What belt does everyone hold?

Are you talking about meditation and reading of ancient scripts in Traditional Goju Ryu Karate? -
I agree, equal rights!

TKD vs Karate
RedDragon replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
You have gained so much respect from me for the above comments.... and not just because I am biased . You are one of the few people who is willing to see the pros and cons of the style that you are currently studying. Now it's my turn... In traditional Japanese Goju, I feel that there isn't enough groundfighting incorporated into the style... I know that the fight is never supposed to go to the ground, but realistically, sometimes it does. -
Telsun... no problem on the misunderstanding... I totally understand that the "Brain Fart" can be a greatly devestating thing
-
Ah yes.. I had a bit of a brain fart there... I know exactly what you are takling about. We do not use then at our Dojo, but have seen them. (Oh, and not being rude, but I train in Japanese Goju )

I am glad that someone addressed this topic. It is a very touchy subject. The way I see it, if I am in danger, then I will used as much force as is need to end the danger. Not to be selfish, but at the end of the day, you have to look out for #1 (yourself). Now I do not mean that this is everyday, but if you are alone (no one else is in danger, just you and the female attacker), you have to worry about your own well being. So I guess what I am trying to say is, I wouldn't beat the lady to a bloody pulp, but I would do what I have to to get out of that situation.... whether that be running away, or having to strike a lady.

LOL.. well then, I guess we'd have quite the fight on our hands!! -
Sai, I find your story to be truely inspirational. While reading, it has brought a tear to my eye, not in sympathy, but in heart-felt pride. You have overcome diversity, and did not allow MS to rule your life. Congradulations for your accomlpishments, and thank you for sharing your wonderful story with us. Please keep us updated.

TKD vs Karate
RedDragon replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Not to knock TKD, but all the little video clips that I have seen, the guys are doing jumping side kicks, and round-house kicks, and other flashy ones like that... they all have their hands down... I just don't see the practical application of it. I'd be staying in close to them so they couldn't use their legs, then what would they do?
