Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. According to Yahoo, release date is today, 12/20, in the US.
  2. If anyone is interested... According to the guide on my cable system, the Capoeira episode of The Deadly Arts is airing tonight (2/16) on FitTV. Its on at 7pm and 10pm here in CA, but of coure check your own guide if you are interested.
  3. FitTV has a series called "The Deadly Arts" that airs on Thursday nights. Its one hour long and each show is about a different art. About a month ago, they did the show on Capoeira. It certainly appears that it can be used effectively for self-defense, though they also train in other aspects that do not directly correlate to self defense. I suppose as is usually the case, how effective it is depends on the student and their teacher.
  4. Ah, ok. Like I said, just curious. Thanks...
  5. KSN Doug, my instructor, KJN Saidi just came back from some training in Texas. I haven't had a chance to ask him about it yet, but just curious if you happened to be involved in the same training, or perhaps met him?
  6. Yup, good luck and hang in there. I'm sure you'll be glad you did.
  7. Let's see... other than MA's/working out: Spending time with my family. Golf, bowling, and softball. Watching movies, football and baseball. Eating. I'm a big Disney fan (moreso of their past work than the current). I try to read books with some regularity.
  8. Not as old as I feel sometimes the morning after a killer workout, but yeah.
  9. I've only got my 1st black stripe and only know as far as Dae Geup Hyung. But what you are saying makes sense.
  10. Honestly, I picked Denver and Seattle, but I was pulling for Pittsburgh and Carolina. If Foster and Peppers had been healthy, I probably would have said Carolina. For the Super Bowl? I've got to go with Pittsburgh. The only thing that really concerns me is Cowher's conservative play-calling at times. I think he goes into a shell too early, and against a team like Seattle, that could burn him. That said, I still think the Steelers take it.
  11. Hmmm.... Jet Li stars in Shaolin Muppets. Jet Li in Snow Dogs 2: Poop Patrol. Jet Li in ET 2: ET's Revenge. I don't know....
  12. Age is a factor... the older you are, the longer it takes for the skin to "bounce back". My understanding is that with a loss like you are describing, it should bounce back, but I'm not sure about the time.
  13. Those are the ones I usually get. But then again, usually, the only people who find out I study MAs are already friends/acquaintances/coworkers. If I don't know somebody reasonably well, or at least don't trust that they aren't looking for trouble, I don't even think about mentioning it.
  14. Again, its your choice. 99.99% of the time at least. If you really do find yourself in places where people are attacking you without provocation, you should be asking yourself why you can't find something else to do with your time. One thing that sometimes happens is we lose perspective. We hang around people that are quick to fight, for example, or like to go to places where trouble lurks. Since we see it all of the time, we think its "normal". The reality is, most people don't fight, or even come close to getting in fights. You can do the same, but again, if and only if you make the choice.
  15. We occasionally practice picking up a staff while doing forward rolls. I'm trying to picture doing it with a cartwheel, and it seems like the length of the staff would make it problematic. Maybe if you pick it up at the "far" end? Something shorter might work well also.
