    Proper side kick

Were doing kempo karate, I know their is something more specific under that, but I forgot it. Thanks for the pic and link, I'm talking soley technique wise btw, for like, kicking a target
  4. the best thing to do, I think, is a call a few local schools and ask if you can watch (or maybe they even offer free lessons), ask them what they do, style wise and if they do ground fighting etc. If your bold enough, ask them if they can do a sparring demonstration, and see if it looks like a reasonable fight... My 2 cents
  5. I remember reading somewhere on how to make a cheap one... but I don't remember
  6. How long ago was that fight? Personally, if it was recent I'd sa wth go at it... But I'm SUPPOSED to say: use your fighting as a last resort. Personally: if it was within a month or a week OR they mess with you in a BIG way, then you can fight them Supposed: Ignore them.
  7. kenpo... I think, I am still confused about thte styles and what not
  8. Hi, I come from a taekwondo bacground, and recently joined karate. Today we did sidekics in class, and the instructor told me to keep my body straight, I looked at pictures on the internet, and I don't think I was leaning back anymore than them... So I was wonderin what is the proper way to do a side kick, a video would be great, thanks.
  9. I am *trying* to study karate, but I think I'm failing
  10. I was wondering what is the minimum space needed to train effincently, and what are some recommended things to train with.
  11. You should never really rush people if their so much better than you, better yet move to the side and enter then move back, the sooner you can understand to not fight linear, the better.
  12. ^Nicely put^ What are some things to watch on an opponent to read him, btw?
  13. is their something more advanced students do, other than circle? a diffeent floor pattern?
  14. Hi, this is my first thread, hope it's good. So, I was wondering about sparring dynamics. What I mean by that is the intereaction between opponents when sparring, where they go in correlation to each other. I noticed that in beginner belts, they tend to have a more linear fighting pattern, more advanced make circles, I think. Is that true? what other dynamics are their? Lets say your opponent does a round house kick, where would be the best place to be? Where should he go in reaction to that? I want to know about questions similar to these. Oh! Fighting patterns is what I want to know about I guess.
  15. I recently joined a karate dojo, I got a blackbelt in taekwondo, two years ago, but now that I look back, I feel like I didn't earn it. Anyway, I asked my instructor if I could wear I white belt and he said no, because I have experience in the area or something like that... The other black belts in the dojo are much better then me, and it makes me feel bad, it sucks. --my 2 cents
