White Belt (1/10)

  1. Yes i think that I will have to don one of those lovely white paper jumpsuit things that have starring roles in The Bill more often than I care to think about............cant wait - i will look utterly ridiculous!! Thanks guys for your congratulations, much appreciated, now i wait in anticipation of my start date..............woohoo oh and where do you get those cool smileys from Solo??
  2. Just had to share this info especially after moaning about how much I dislike my current job in another thread. This morning I have been offered an appoinment with the Police as a Scenes of Crime Officer (or a CSI (as in the tv series) to those over the pond from here)...........this is the job ive been trying to get into for ages and now finally perseverance has paid off. Not sure of my start date for training yet but im not too worried as the end of this rubbish job is in sight!!! Yeah!! I cant stop smiling today!!
  3. In one word NO!!! I work for the British government in Immigration, and it is possibly the most mind numbingly boring and repetitive job ever!!! There are parts that are good, we have some interesting human rights stuff come though, but as a rule it sucks!!! Thankfully though it is only a temprary job while I focus on breaking into the 'world of forensic science' and the police............fingers crossed that i wont be here for too much longer!!! Would love to make MA my work but seeing as I have just started I think that this is extremely unlikely or a far off dream......
  4. I used too drink most nights until i was pretty drunk - a university social thing. Now i dont drink anywhere near that and its either at weekends or every now and then. This i suspect is partly due to me wanting to get fitter, and not let it impinge on what i do, and partly because im bored of it. I think i may have grown out of it......finally!! The drinks I drink have changed also, from beer and spirits to wine and alcopops!!!
  5. we do several variations of press up at training including: 1. wide grip 2. close grip 3. 'diamond' press ups where the hands are under the sternum area of the body with the left and fight thumb and fore fingers touching forming a diamond shape 4. press ups with one foot over the other so its essentially a one footed press up (both left and right legs) 5. press ups with one leg raised of the ground in line with the body (helps the abs) 6. one armed press ups - although i havent build up to these yet 7. then obviously depending on strength, knuckle or finger press ups (i again cant do these yet as im only a beginner) 8. press ups with anothe persons legs on the small of your back so you are essentially lifting their weight as well. this can be done with 2 or four people, probably more but im not sure 9. press ups where a partner pushes you down and then releases you so you 'spring' up again, a resistance press up. erm.............i think thats all i can remember of the top of my head
  6. hello and welcome to the forum
  7. Thanks guys, i'll be on the case as soon as i have a spare second
  8. Thanks guys. Im trying to decide which grappling MA (a thread to this effect i posted in Getting started in MA) to do so hopefully then i wont get to confused between that and my kickboxing.....
  9. hmm, i think i like the idea of the japanese styles......thanks again for your help im off to look into it now (provided my boss isnt around)
  10. Hello Im new here also (suprisingly)!! Im 23 years old, female that started kickboxing about two months ago and am grading for my first belt next week!!! I live in Leeds, England where i went to university and looking back wish i had started MA then!!! Having been bitten by the bug i am now looking into doing a grappling MA and TKD as well as my kickboxing which i still think i may change to Muay Thai......... Hmm what else...........I am trying to break into forensic science/the police as a career but its proving to be much harder than i thought. Anyway, thats enough about me for the moment C x
  11. Thank you Kirves. What are the differences between the Jujitsu styles - are there any good websites that would explain the differences?
  12. Hi This is my first forum post. I started kickboxing a couple months ago and am going for my first grading in a week or so. But i want to compliment this with a grappling type of MA. I dont know which would be the best for me Aikido or Jujitsu or are there some others that someone would recommend?? I also want to do TKD but dont know which would be the better choice.
