  1. ........you'r smart
  2. .......I don't get it
  3. [if you think one good punch to the solar plexus will finish most people, you are gravely mistaken. Usually during fights, people don't feel bodyshots until afterwards. Have you been in many fights? Trust me on this one unless you have a punch like mike tyson then only attack the body if the face is guarded. I have been in enough to know what i am talking about, i know thier is no "winning stratagy" to every fight but in most fights a punch, frust to the plexus, was all i needed to: A. excape B. sweep/take away thier legs, and then repedidly hit them till they are no longer a threat I'm not saying that they will "feel" it straight away, but it will sure as hell knock the wind out of him, which gives me ample time to execute tatic A, or B. make no mistake, i know what im talking about, and i also do attack the face as it is more affective to "stun" them with and then good old A & B kicks in
  4. ................O.K. I'll say it- what does it mean?
  5. We do quite alot of point sparring in my club and i kinda like it, it has a little more point than you might think, you see after you get a point you restart (am i right?) well "real fights" (fights outside the dojo) dont last 10 seconds and so one good punch to the solar plexus or one quik little combo will finish most people (after all it aint hollywood ) and thus point sparring was invented so that the person with the best timing, initutive, reflexes and speed has a good chance of winning, compared to a big "tank" of a guy who can only dish out and take in hits hope that helped
  6. I duno, how many zen masters does it take to change a light bulb? hey, can you recomend any good zen books? (something that i would beable to find in a libary or sumthin)
  7. im 15, 16 in August 15th and im starting colledge three days after my birthday *shudder!*
  8. Karate has given me the oppertunity to meet some truly great people and great friends, it gives me escapism as when i train my mind is almost empty i dont worry about family/social matters, when i train with my friends it brings us all closer together and i am fairly confident thet if the oppertunity arises i will be able to protect myself and my loved ones peace out
  9. I agree with every word, but why do I need karate for doing this You don't. Karate (or budo in general) is just one of the vehicles by which one can learn zen. Basically, anything involving long term commitment to hardship, taking responsibility of one's own life plus those of others (in karate you do this by performing deadly techniques on your fellow people and they must trust you and you must trust them to not hurt each other), plus several other similar traits, can be a vehicle of zen. Karate happens to be one we like. You could just go to a buddhist temple too, but they take a differing road to the same goal. Basically, you want to go to the top of the mountain to enjoy the magnificent view. Most people are accustomed to try to find the shortest or fastest route, wether it is the highway or the mountain train. What zen tries to teach is to take the long route and just start going. Learn and enjoy the trip instead of just focusing on the goal and searching for the fastest way. When you focus on the journey, even though you know it is not the easiest possible, you will learn more about yourself, your travel companions, the country side around you, the climate and the mountain itself. When you finally reach the top, you are much wiser and more knowledgeable person than when you began. And when you look down to see the view, and the mountainside, you notice the people who were searching for the fast track are still down there, searching for they'll never find it. If they find a faster track, they won't take it because they'll figure there's one even faster around the bend. They never reach the goal, nor will they enjoy the search either. If you think of the mountain as a metaphor for your life and the world you have around you, you may understand my point. .........deep that was AMAZING were the hell did you hear/learn that!?

  14. My sensi teaches shukokai karate and although he never crisizes other martial arts (he simply stated thier strengthes and weaknesses) he says that the only problem he has with tkd (he got b.belt in it) is that it is to "showey" or "flashy" and that the kick's they get taught are devasting if they land but are easily avoidable *sidestep, jumpback COUNTER! that is why i recomend Karate because it is well balanced 50%leg's tecniqes, 50% hand/arm tecniqes. Judo is also great for self defence and Karate and Judo sort of click easily togther. not only that but bith karate & Judo clubs are easy to find peace out -Scott

  22. wot kind of low kicks? with the heel ot the edge? were should you hit shin or knee? the only time i fight is in school and i know people have said it before me but CONTROLING your breathing is a must, people allways have feelings of cowerdice legs shake cant think straight, but you must remember the samething is happening to your opponent. a great tip is, before the fight starts ask him a question (if you have time) such as "why are you doing this" then wack him on the nose with your back knuckles before he finishes talking surprise = vivtory = being alive if your jumped however and it's not the duel kinda fight then your on your own. NO ONE CAN PREPARE FOR THAT. so just. be carefull
