Hello all, SM here. Long story short, I used train in karate many years ago (Kyokushinkai), obtaining my nikyu before the death of my instructor. My own son began training in Isshinryu Karate three years ago and when he joined the adult class, after getting some work-related injuries squared away, I joined him as a white belt. Prior to my work-related injuries, I was also training regularly in BJJ (striped white belt, nothing special) but because of the nature of those it will likely be a long time before I can roll again. I'm also a former Marine with a VA disability rating, nothing major thank God but just a lot of high mileage over the years (hence the username). I'm coming from almost 10 months of inactivity due to my injuries, so nothing will be too exciting here. Just trying to build up that consistency once again. I'm trying to regularly train techniques, do one simple strength exercise per day, and get in 20-30 minutes of light cardio most days (mostly walking, occasional Zone 2 run or throwing on a weight vest). 08/10 - Rehab/mobility work, seiken push-ups (10 sets of 1 rep), then a 30 minute walk with a 20# vest. Long stretching routine in the evening. 08/11 - Rehab/mobility work, Isshinryu Chart 1 #1-15 (10 reps of each), reverse lunges (10 sets of 5 reps each leg), then some short walks throughout the day. 08/12 - Rehab/mobility work, lat pulldowns (10 sets of 10 reps, 50#). Isshinryu class in the evening, about 2 hours. Self defense drill #1 vs middle punch, then some pre fatigue work before a few people tested. We did about 300 punches and a bunch of squat kicks. Two folks then were tested for green belt and awarded it.
